Hi There

My Name is Victor and im 15

I have a big issue and its been driving me crazy, my issue is that i cant get broadband but i live in the dannremora region in auckland, its been like this for past 4 years and im getting sick of it really. Im stuck on dial up for pretty much whole life and im a hardcore gamer,i have a problem with telecom i think they are misleading me, since the day ive moved here which was 4 years ago ive asked for broadband and they replied out of area, i waited another year and i had same reply, and then i was just patient because some people i know didnt have dial up but the year after everyone got broadband and i asked them and they gave me same reply but funny thing was my friend who lived just opposite my house had fast broadband and i was pretty ticked off, cause this year i found out i was in area and i called them and they now say not enough ports -_- and they always say they will add some later or they will find out later? but when?? when is it going to stop with these non sense excuses, im stuck on dial up and its causing alot of problems at home because i cant play after 6pm and my mother needs to use phone alot and internet for work and stuff, but i cant play most times online and i just feel like telecom are lying because i know many people who have had many problems with them where telecom are being false, i plan to switch to orcon soon since ive asked my mother if we can switch ISP as we are on Xtra Unlimited dial up , most people i know around my area have broadband, heck my friend moved here about 1 month ago and on first week he got broadband and lived a couple streets away from me, but telecom keeps saying same excuses and its just getting ridicious , as im getting older and getting more studing i dont have time for gaming, i play only old games and current MMORPGS online which work really well. My Mom is making a business soon which i plan to work their and she needs 2 lines to phone , 1 for business and 1 for homeline so she rang telecom and they gave her option to use our dial up line for business calling and now i cant even internet after 10pm at all >< its just not fair, wat can i do ive asked my mother and she said we can switch ISP as long i find out the information, really its driving me insane ive been patient enough for 4 years now and i dont know when its going to stop -_-, telecom are lying and i beat they are,i just wondering how i can get broadband cause our lines are owned by telecom and we dont know wat to do, because since ive found out a few people in our street have broadband telecom have been saying we out of area.

So wat should i do?

I would like to switch to orcon but i dont know what to do since we have to ring them but i checked their site and says we are in area :S, i really dont know wat to do i just wanna find out how can i get broadband because my family uses internet and phone alot and we cant use it at same time? is there any ISP or plan or anything that can get me to broadband?

if you would help me i would apperciate it :)

I doubt that... companies are generally in the habit of selling services that are available.

Sounds reasoanable if broadband simply want available there at the time you asked.

Probably when there is a critical mass of users to make it financially viable to invest more money.

What nonsense? When there was no broadband, they said there was no broadband. Sounds like for whatever reason, you missed out when they did put it in (which must be frustrating for you I guess), and now that its in, and all the ports are used, they are pretty much in the same boat - there is no equipment available to connect you to. I know it probably sucks, but it doesnt sound like 'non sense excuses'.

Approach other providers, look at other broadband technology - 3G, satellite, wireless etc.

cause our lines are owned by telecom and we dont know wat to do, because since ive found out a few people in our street have broadband telecom have been saying we out of area.

At one point in your post you switched from saying Telecom reckoned you were out of area, to Telecom saying no more ports. I'd like to bet no more ports, and the week your mate arrived and got broadband that week, there probably happened to be a newly-free port that day or something.

So wat should i do?

Approach other broadband providers. You can get broadand pretty much anywhere in this country if its that important to you.

So Orcons system says you can have it, but you wont ring them to confirm, and are left wondering why you cant have broadband?

Phone Telecom and ask about Mobile Broadband
Phone Telstra and ask about Mobile Broadband
Phone Vodafone and ask about Mobile Broadband

Try WorldXChange as well, they will probably get you a real answer pretty quick.

i apperciate your post but most of it isnt helping

i know that for the fact telecom lying because i know many people who rang them up and have had same excuses, why do i say excuses well for the fact its been 4 years now and ive been patient for so long they have always been saying they will inform us about when broadband will be avaliable and such and the funny thing is a few people who lived broadband ever since they arrived here have had for almost since ive came to live in this area,they have said they will add ports last like april and really i know you support telecom but you arent in the position i am, sure you can get broadband you dont have to complain. But i dont theres a difference , 4 years is pretty outrageous i have many friends etc i know who say telecom are just misleading me. why is for a fact i cant get broadband they just lazy to enable it thats it or they dont really care for abous us or a couple customers? why spend so much $$ on advertising and say its availiable when its not? and my area is about nearly 6-7 years old maybe older but im not so sure.Just wat really guttered me is when they lyed to me about saying when im out of area but when i had checked some other ISP providers said i was in area.so really telecom have mislead me, sure some people might have good results with them and not everyone does.Im not looking for a wireless or those plans they just horrible for gaming arent they? im looking something fast for under $50 or at $50 , i want to get the 15gb 256kbit Orcon Plan and ive checked if im in area and yes but what should i do, im also wanting to see if theres a plan thats pretty fast if its shared at home, if its wireless it has to be pretty good if its not the disconnectiong laggy ones. My Father has wireless and it was horrible too much disconnecting so did my friends wireless had same problem :(. but some plan that is good for sharing around the house and is decent for gaming because im working right now and my mom said that i could pay the extra $20 per month and i can decide the plan :) .

Ive also read about satelite it just is nearly worse than dial up im not know much but ive read and heard it isnt good at all for gaming
i dont know about Mobile Broadband how good is it?

My eyes are bleeding trying to read your posts. You really need to consider
1) Punctuation.
2) Paragraphs.
3) not usings SMS abbreviations.
4) Reading your post before submitting it.

Being able to read what you are posting helps everyone to understand you, and help you.

blah blah blah... Look, you really don't know what Telecom can and can't do for you... The reality is that they are a business, and if they could provide a service to you then they would. There are any number of possible reasons why you are having problems getting broadband, but i seriously doubt that Telecom have it in for you.

Why not quit school, get a job, move out of home into a flat a bit closer to a telecom exchange, I am sure that your mum would probably be greatful, because if you moan to her about this as much as you have compained here, she must be fairly sick of it...

when i had checked some other ISP providers said i was in area.

This begs the question... why not try and get broadband with another ISP. ISP's like WorldxChange (www.xnet.co.nz) charge the same competative rate if you use them for your tolls or not.... have a look at them... seriously...

Look, the people here don't actually work for Telecom (or they don't admit it), but we can offer you some advise. Whether or not you think it's helpful, that's not really important.

Most of us have delt with Telecom before in on way or another, and they are not a bad company to deal with, they do have some people working for them that don't really care, but most large companies do. If you are persistant, and keep calling whoever you try and get broadband with, reminding them that you are still waiting, you should eventually get there.

My thoughts exactly, I have implemented wireless networks for folk who have similar access problems, works a charm, just find someone nearby that is willing to give you access (maybe for a small fee but that may be against their providers T&C).

f you have line of site to the Otahuhu Substation transmission site then you could ditch Telecom all together with a VoIP offering.

thanks for your advice guys i will look into it, sorry for my grammar it was just i was in a rush.its just been 4 years man i really would of loved it i could use the phone and internet at same time its always a pain and i have to wait whenever i can use internet while others can use the phone and net whenever they want. my neighbour/friend said they getting broadband soon and i feel like im left behind , im sorry if im complaining but i was just looking for help, i beat only way i can wait is an extra 3-4 years :( because thats just too long and im left behind everyone else , technology is developing but not fast enough and it seems its not fair that telecom have been saying same thing for past 4 years and we havent seen any results.i would stay with dial up for extra 1-2 years if only i could use the phone and internet same time , because its just a hassle. i heard there was a way to use internet and phone same time on dial up is it possible? cause ive tried searching on net can couldnt find a thing, please help me out, just please dont try to flame i dont like when people try to flame me cause of grammar or my opinon just please if u have nothing good to say dont say anything. ill try call the ISPs soon but please i know that some of you think im wrong and telecom are doing a good job. But i dont wanna wait extra 2-4 years!! ive been patient enough.If some of you tell me to move then that isnt a option for my family as we cant do it just like that and we love the area we live in its very safe.Yes some of you might think its not a big deal but it is to me because its just horrible not been able to use the phone at when my sisters on the net. Plus my mother is making a business and which our dial up line will be used over another phone line so we only can use internet after 6-8pm+ we rang telecom last week and they said not enough ports and we have no other option. My friend/neighbour didnt get called and hes been living here for about half a year and telecom informed them that they can get broadband after christimas ? why i dont know? so guys is there a way i can use dial up and the internet at same time its just a hassle i wouldnt mind the internet download speeds and such cause i dont download much and i just use internet for gaming and work. So help me out here please. Im sure ill try find out about Wireless and such but ive been to peoples house who had wireless and they arent that good cause they cause alot of disruptions to the connection.. and satelite is too expensive and its not that good. we are also in a budget and we not willing to spend over $50-100 to get broadband.

Well, if I was you, I would get your parents or whoever is authority on the account to give Telecom or a provider of choice a call.

In line with what the others have been saying, Telecom and other providers are not in the business of turning down customers wanting services (after all they are businesses)

Hi.. i think wireless connection is just what you need..

All you need to do is play around and build a wireless antenna / or buy one..
and get a wireless Access Point or Adaptor.. and see what wireless traffic is around in your area..
Being that you are in Auckland..i guess there should be a fair bit..
But would have no idea.. cos im in Dunedin...

To give you an idea.. my wireless internet plan with www.wic.co.nz was

1mb/s down - 1mb/s up
unlimited bandwidth
$300 setup fee... ( i did self install so free )
for $50.00 inc a month

Or.. you could look at gettting Vodafone 3G mobile internet

It might be okay by you, but it doesn't fit with the rules of posting here. You need to write more understandable posts, or you will get ignored, deleted, or banned.

I have provided helpful answers. I mentioned many providers you could contact, and various different connection methods you could use, as well as telling you why you may have recieved the answers you have from Telecom. Good English is extremely important here so that we may have a fighting chance at reading your posts. Its in the rules shown before you post, so I don't know why you find this such a big surprise.

Do you submit schoolwork like this? I very much doubt it.

I speak English as my first language, and I struggle to read what you write. We have users from all the planet, who dont all speak English natively, and if the site is not understandable, they have no chance to read and make sense of it all.

Please have some courtesy when using this site, and use paragraphs, instead of a single long block of text, and dont use text-messaging-speak. We do not ask for perfection when it comes to writing, because thats not what we are about. But you do need to put some effort in, to claw your way up to acceptable.

ok i understand your point its just how i write and do in most forums and such and most people seem to understand me. I was in a rush so yes you might not understand it sometimes and im sorry its just who i am i have grown with it like that. I will try my best now to explain.
