I am extremely irritated with the Fibre installation company to the point that when it does arrive here I feel like telling them to shove it squarely where the Sun don't shine, we for the last 6 months have been watching Fibre installations occur all around us with the 2nd most recent being 60ft away on a street across the road.

Today driving home from the Supermarket I saw them installing Fibre in the Street at the end of our Street - literally 15 feet ) basically 5 meters from our house but according to the roll out map for installation our property can not expect Fibre services until "Before December 2018".

I have been inquiring about getting Fibre now for over 3 years and now have to wait for another 3 1/4 years to get it installed while it's being installed left right and center around my area I am so annoyed that I will now die running copper cable even if a Fibre upgrade is offered free of charge just as a mater of principle because they have pissed me off that much.

I know this probably sounds self entitled but bare in mind I could walk to the end of my driveway and hold a conversation with the installers without even needing to raise my voice above that of a normal conversation - but I can't get Fibre for 3 1/4 years more - Ridiculous.

You're right. That does sound self entitled  (Tongue in cheek of course - you said it first) :p

BTW, it might help to give a clue about where you live and who "the Fibre installation company" is. They differ throughout the country and I'd guess in many cases have very little to do with setting the policies....

EDIT: they do have to draw the line somewhere, and if they moved it to include the house "just one over" it would never end.

Sneak out in the middle of the night, with a paint spray can and mark your street frontage with the same markings they are using for UFB installs for your neighbors.

Has to be a cutoff point for each area somewhere.

So, hang on, you think every single house should have access now?

Because that's the logical extension of your argument... If you get it, why not your neighbour? They are only one house further down? What about their neighbour? What about theirs?

The point is there has to be a line somewhere and it sucks when you're on the wrong side of it. How well do you know your neighbours? remote install + P2P wireless link?

Cheers - N

Chill dude, installing fibre for 3 million people of course will take time, you think fibre just appears in the ground by magic?

Of course not! You have to sow to reap. I'm planting one of these in the garden tonight, and hope to have usable fibre by Christmas.

Chorus if i remember correctly have a 1km long cable to blow to your home there has to be a cut off point otherwise the fibre wont appear out the other end.
Sadly when it comes to telecommunications location is key, just because the next door  has it doesn't mean the next property can get it, this simply means you will be connect to a different cabinet possibly in a different direction.

My parents are in a similar position. They are 7 houses from the end of their street - fibre right up to the intersection, courtesy of there being a school on the corner, and yet they can't even get VDSL. The hillside facing my place has fibre, but I don't. Hugely frustrating but not much you can do.

You will get fibre eventually. A lot of places will never get it, ever.

The Fibre Installation company is "Enable Networks" and quite literally the house next door can have Fibre and we can't and the time difference is going to be three years because they are cabling other areas before ours gets done - we are the absolute LAST area being cabled.

As it was when VDSL upgrades happened and ADSL was introduced - why are we ALWAYS last - it sucks!

Well there is something I can do - I could switch to Vodafone (yuck) formally Telstra Clear cable network which is in our area but I don't really want to switch provider if I can help it and decide to not ever connect to UFB just as a matter of principle, I am tired of our area always being last and wonder if it's something along the lines of the contracts that used to happen between Telstra and Telecom saying that Telstra was never allowed to supply ADSL into areas where Telstra could have their own cable connections.

It makes me wonder if we are being supplied last to protect Vodafones ability to charge exorbitant prices for cable connections in those areas where cable exists as my understanding is there is very little profitability in UFB for ISPs

OH BTW I am one house from the end of the street.

You have the option of a fast service, plenty of people don't. At least you are scheduled to get fibre.

Stop being a cry baby!
Change providers, wait it out, or move.

Are you aware that VF cable has major congestion problems at present? (hopefully to be fixed soon)
