The high winds last night resulted in this sight in the morning

It appears the anchor point is attached to the roof flashing instead of the house itself. I've managed to push it back into place for now but really think the anchor point should be moved to something more solid so it doesn't happen again. Do I call Chorus or ISP? The original install was over two years ago with previous house owner. I could probably move the anchor point myself but worried that if I break it somehow then it'll be my fault and then I'll be charged for them to come out and fix it.

Hah! That's some bad luck. Log it with your ISP I would say. Would be a super easy job to move it anyway but you are right in that if you moved it and broke something it would be "all your fault".

I wonder why they just didn't go below the flashing in to the weatherboards.

Yikes. It seems like your barge flashing needs to be reattached to the house more securely. I would get a roofer to come take a look at it. Since it has blown off in a storm, your insurance might even pay for it to be repaired (subject to an excess). I think the UFB issue is secondary.

Hmm, I'd be leaning more towards they shouldn't have anchored that to a flashing... flashings are not structural

Exactly, the string of dodgy UFB installs is making me question whether we need like master UFB installer similar to electricians or builders etc.

Not a good install. No way should the hook have gone through the flashing like that. It just isn't the right type of fitting to use either. It looks like those are cedar weather boards, and the are very soft, so not suitable for anchoring either.

The weatherboards don't look cedar to me. The hook should have been long enough to go into the timber but I can't see where. Maybe a higher res picture would show what's happened.

Edit On my tablet it looks like something just caught/missed the edge of the framing but that seems too far from where the edge of the flashing should have been.

Possible it was the copper anker before the UFB and they just reused?

Going through a flashing into a structural part of the roof would be the most solid way to attach the thing in the context presented by this photo.......though having the stress be in a direction that will pull the fastener out wouldn't be good. It should have at least been toed in if it wasn't possible to change the direction of the stress from the incoming cable. Ideally, the cable would be run along a fence or dug in.

Just fastening it to a weatherboard would be even worse....possibly ripping a weatherboard off the house.

Get a roofer to fix the roof flashing. You don't want to get wet.

Chorus (Downer) came out Tuesday evening and moved the anchor point to a place on the weatherboards that has a stud behind it too. Will get a roofing person to check the flashing and make sure all water tight.

Happy that posting here saved me the pain of logging a fault with my service provider.
