I chucked my new address into the new Chorus Broadband Checker and it's saying my estimated speed for VDSL is 1Mbps (ADSL is 7Mbps).

Are these estimates accurate? I'm not sure where the nearest exchange is, but can PM the address to someone if they have that data.

Sounds like you will be connected to a Conklin cabinet (Poor you) Must be a rural location

Post an approx. Location then we can tell from that

Near Greeny Park, Tawa.

The school next to it has fibre, but the rest of the neighbourhood has to wait until June-july.

I live literally down the hill.

I can also guess what house you are as all your neighbours have a VDSL sync of between 30Mbit-70Mbit. You've got a wiring fault but as UFB is around the corner I don't know if you want to pay to fix it.

I could potentially look at installing a master filter for you assuming I've got one hanging around.

What type of fault would cause that? Is it likely to be in the house or outside equipment?

Any idea how much this would cost and if I could get an ISP to pay it I get wire insurance?

The estimations are done with alot more than just the address these days, it tries to realistically predict what will actually be based on existing datapoints.

As noted already, sounds like a fault situation which will definitely always throw off estimations.

Your ISP won't pay and wiring insurance won't cover it. This sounds like it is an internal wiring fault. Honestly, as UFB is just around the corner just wait until then.

Why won't the wiring insurance cover it? Isn't that what this is for?

'Tawa represent" im on the other hill in tawa

fyi there is a 6 weeks wait (from the time you request it ) to get a fibre installed in tawa at the moment as a contractor has told me

Update to this: Was an on-street wiring issue. Voyager organised with Chorus and they came and diagnosed + fixed while I was at work.,

Getting 7-8mbps now (was 1ish). Not great, but the internet is usable again.
