Hi,

Does anyone here have the 'Big Time' plan from Telecom? I used to have that type of plan when it first came out, cant recall the exact year, maybe 2007..?

I remember it used to be a real pain.. and now I see they have increased the 'peak time' hours. It used to be from 4pm - 12pm, but now its from 9am to 2am, giving you only 7 hours of 'max' speed.

Is it still incredibly slow during these hours, even if your not downloading, but only browsing and going on youtube?

Should I just go to a 20gb plan instead?

fine here. torrents are slow to 50-60kb/s from 9am to 2am. but http is not limited. youtube is always excellent :)

I have never used Torrents, but I do plan to use Rapidshare with the Flashget download manager, would that be affected?

Fair enough. This is my first night back on this 'unlimited' plan. Youtube seems to be running pretty good, but other streaming video sites just keep buffering.

Oh man, seriously, traileraddict.com isnt loading, apple.com/trailers isnt loading, downloads at 15kbps! I didn't think everything would slow down this much!

my flatmates are not going to be happy i talked them into changing to this plan!

check the Telecom forum. lots of thread on big time there.

In my personal experience, I have found browsing mostly to be fine, and gaming to be fine.
torrents download well during the set hours.

downside is that some things take aaaaaages to download - most vids (except youtube) and Steam.

Ok, so at 2am it did indeed speed up, and downloads were going great, but after 8.4gb downloaded, its all suddenly dropped in speed again, and its only 3:30am. what gives?

Just for the record Big Time is a 24/7 traffic managed plan. You have to accept if you do go on this plan that all traffic could be managed depending on loads.

Youtube is cached locally, thats why you get good speeds on it. ANY other streaming site will be pants. So you downloaded 8.4gb in an hour and a half? and your complaining about that?
Unless you pay for a rapidshare premium account you wont be able to use flashget.. even when you do its still going to be horrendously slow due to the overwhelming 24/7 trafficshapping on all filesharing sites.

im on bigtime and have been since its inception.. Seriously considering changing plans due to the issues with streaming.

Well, I started it at midnight, when it was going at 10kbps, and woke up and checked it around 2am, and was going strong, then at 3:30 it was back to 10kbps. Yeah im complaining, because I should have had 5 1/2 hours left of high speed net. I only got probably 2 hours depending on when it sped up. and it means i have to wait till 2am again to finish it.

Yer I had to laugh, according to his post on the other thread he was on a 3G plan so that would last hmmm < 30min musta been boring for the rest of the month

Yes you are correct, I was on a 3GB plan, but I wasn't downloading anything because of that, so it would last the month. If your on a large plan, your on a large plan because you want to be able download.

Speed on torrents can drop for any number of other reasons unrelated to BigTime. for example, if some people stop seeding.
