my name is luke and i live in a flat with 4 others we have broad band but it gets used so fast that we dont really get the use out of it. everyone in the flat state that they dont use much and yet it goes so fast that that is not possible. i would like to know if there are any way of controlling the internet or seeing which person is using all or most of it each month so they can get billed for it rather than the people who dont. and if that isnt possible is there any other ways to get around this that doesnt cost to much???

thank you so much

luke

The first thing would be to search the site for the numerous other threads that have discussed this very issue.

Make sure your wireless is locked down or it might really not be your flatmates.

And make sure your flatmates know that streaming video and bittorrent do contribute to internet usage, a lot. You can also check your router's indicator lightswhen everybody says they are not using internet. If you are lucky you will see one of the lights flashing very quickly and find out which computer is plugged into that port. If you notice that its wireless flashing alot, then try using wired connections for each of your flatmates one-by-one to isolate which computer is still got lots of data when its not supposed to. Someone might have a virus.

Time to find a new industry!
