Labrakadabrador: So computer lounge have just updated their stocking page - they've just received their latest consignment of 3080s and....

There are no Gigabyte Gaming OCs in there.
Only TUFs, Auros and Eagles

This is getting incrediblyfrustrating. Have to imagine I was one of the first through the door, but it's going to be a month before receiving a card!

Hope others have better luck

Nvidia just said shortages will continue into 2021.

Pbtech were supposed to receive a shipment of eagle cards on the 2nd. These were not received at all..

So, if the retailers can’t even trust their own suppliers then you can’t really rely on any estimate from the retailer.

Mainly, pbtech seem to be telling customers they have a big shipment on 27.11 that will fulfill all back orders but I don’t believe it until I see it haha.

The positive thing in all this is that we get to see the new amd cards which gives a chance to cancel nvidia and order amd if they are better.

Ordered a MSI 3080 from Computer Lounge shortly after 1am unlock time on launch day but I don't think it matters tbh. They've only received one shipment of MSI and the wait continues. It's a paper launch.

Problem with that is, if the AMD cards do live up the the rumours and get close to / near the 3080, while being price competitive & using less power, etc, and the reviews from tech sites are good of course (good drivers!) then do you think they'll be any easier to get?

You bet your ass they won't.

I think it'll be great if they do with their GPU's what they did with their CPU's, but that'll just see many mass cancel nvidia back orders that are months away and pile up AMD orders.

This, yes I will be extremely surprised if the 6900XT is faster than the 3080. AMD do have increased IPC and more cores this time around. But with DLSS 2.0 and a few other features I think they will fall short. Despite what some of these silly less popular youtubers have said.

I purposely purchased the 3080 as soon as it became available because like the new PS5 and XBox releases I knew there would be massive worldwide shortages. Fortunately I have a well working Gigabyte OC RTX3080 in my hot hands and I am getting some incredible frame rates and NO Crashes. Even when Heaven was running i had a core clock of 2100 Mhz and it didn't crash, was quite surprised.

I can't believe releasing something which is considered the biggest improvement in PC gaming in the longest time and utterly ruining the hype by making hardware unavailable. I understand C19 will have played a part, but why not delay the launch till there is enough hardware to at least take the edge off demand. I've more or less lost interest in this launch as a result and will now wait to see if AMD have something comparable and perhaps cheaper with a decent upgrade over my 1080TI.

Same with Xbox Series X.

The rtx 20xx series were a poor increase in performance -- the 3080 should have been the 20xx release.

Gigabyte Gaming OC 3080 Received and installed.. no issues so far. Seems to be nice and quiet.

She's a huge card though - you want to check your case specs. I only have about 2-4mm between the end of the card and my intake fan

I had a Meshify C and have since ordered a Meshify S2 because of the length!!

Gigabyte Gaming OC 3080 arrived through PB on Thursday last week, few days late but in the end I can't complain.

Definitely quieter than I was expecting a very solid card, mine boosts to around 2025mhz in some games out of the box, my case is the Coolermaster HP 500 Mesh, bucket loads of clearance.

Hearing that people are receiving their cards is reassuring, and good to hear people having good experiences.

I wish I had bought a placeholder card - I might still so that I can get some use out of my other parts - but I know as soon as I do I'll get a notification to pick up my 3080! Sod's law dictates it.

Also for anyone interested, it appears that CL actually have a 3090 in stock - odd brand (Inno3D) and can't find any reviews but if people are desperate?

Its good that they will be more price competitive than originally thought as they will feature the same cut down die / CUDA count as their lower VRAM counterparts.

Their so called source is videocardz and igorslabs, I wouldn't get too excited. People keep saying how trust worth one or the other is, but that has not been my observation, throw enough crap at the wall some will stick eventually.

As AMD looks likely to struggle matching the 3080, I think there is a very real possibility AMD will release higher VRAM models as a marketing ploy, thus Nvidia likely set to counter (as per the Gigabyte slip up), so the time frame is fairly guessable.

Personally I am not even remotely concerned about 10GB VRAM being a issues for gaming in the realistic lifetime of the 3080, I would only buy a higher VRAM model if the price was within NZ$100, but that's probably money largely wasted.

The one thing that I am waiting for regarding the topic of VRAM is how well RTX I/O performs - as I personally think there's a bit of a singularity happening here that might cause something of a quantum leap in gaming performance.

The pieces - NVIDIA RTX IO, DirectX API, PCIE4, PCIE4 SSDs.

The outcome could be pretty amazing from a performance standpoint :-

CPU load reduced as it doesn't have to do as much storage marshaling and decompression - meaning it can do other things like AI or pathing or whatever
Heck potentially could just peg a core to file management and be done with it
Larger file/texture resources in 4K means more time moving them around and decompressing them
PCIE4 bandwidth improves the performance (or at least removes contention) for file transfer to GPU storage
PCIE4 SSDs add to that performance improvement
GPU can then access it's own storage for said textures AND perform the decompression as needed
AND caching etc on the GPU all becomes more efficient

So lots of small improvements could add up to something special.

Is 10g enough? too much? No clue - but certainly faster memory is better - so it wins on that point - if the 3080 20 gig has the same fast memory then it might be a no brainer. I do worry they may give 20g of GDDR6 though... especially as reports for the 3080 show that the mem gets VERY hot so more might be tough for thermals.

Not playing any games except Starcraft2 lol, I wouldn't know about VRAM demands for gaming. But gaming is not the only market that uses high VRAM cards, regardless of what the manufacturer wants them to use it for - if the card is good for the ever-expanding prosumer market then they're going to use it.

We don't know which Navi die specs were shown but its possible the top die might get close to 3080 - but with 16GB it has already won the productivity edge for many applications by a large margin. nVidia has not drunk the coolaid to the point they give away market share for no reason - they will confirm a release date early November at the latest.
