How does $500 USD translate to $1049?

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

AIB cards generally are a bit more expensive than founders cards.

They're scarce at the moment so expect to see inflated prices.

Pricing should settle next year.

I think the ASUS Dual 3070 RRP is 570usd
Add in sales tax (~6%) in the US and that takes it to around 600

600usd is 901nzd

Considering import, shipping etc I'd say that isn't too bad!

Yeah I really don't think 3070's being around $1000-$1200 is unreasonable considering the factors in price shown above.

If you're doing the calculation just use nzd gst. US$570 is around NZ$855. Add GST it's around $985. You're paying $100 premium for local warranty and bricks and mortar. If that's not attractive you can parallel import yourself once supply is decent.

I'm going to wait. As compelling as the 3070 is, I am not paying $1049 for a graphics card any more. I'll wait till they drop in price or see what red team has to offer.

If it takes too long, my FOMO will have subsided and I may opt not to upgrade at all :)

If the performance of RDNA2 is what AMD announced we could see some good competition on price.

It won't be for a while though, I can't see stock availability really being good for 6 months.

That's quite frustrating :)

Just as well I have new gen consoles to amuse myself with.

To be fair my 1080i is handling Watch Dogs Legion at 1440p on ultra without missing a beat.

I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't be after a card unless you actually need an update at the moment.

The pandemic has wrecked the market so it's just a matter a waiting, if you can.

There is always something that gives the manafacturers justification to increase prices. Memory shortages, factory fires etc.

I get a bit tired of it.

Equally when supply is good the prices plummet. RAM is pretty cheap at the moment as is storage.

I haven't measured but it feels smooth. May have been a very occasional drop but it feels like butter.
