$1400 for a 3070 is pretty steep, I'd much rather take the cheapest 3080 for a little bit more.

Yeah, it’s weird. If you are able / willing to spend $1400 on a card you can’t buy, why wouldn’t you stretch it a little to buy a 3080 which you also can’t buy.

Although I notice they have some actual stock available.

Did the hype drop off? Wonder if their queue was very long over night.

The AMD release yesterday seems to have calmed some hype a bit.

Yeh I paid $1469 for my AIB 3080

No way I would pay $1400 for a 3070. I still think if you can pick up a 6800xt for about $1100 it would be a nice card.

I very much doubt the 6800 XT will be priced even close to that. The 6800 is $579 USD and based on the RTX 3070 being $499 USD and retailing at $1049+ here, you can expect probably $1200+ for the 6800, and $1350+ for the 6800 XT. Video cards are way too expensive. I might just buy a console...

Anything over $1200 for a 3070 seems unreasonable, let alone $1400!

I feel glad to have managed to secure one for $1150.

Also seems like models are restocking as early as the 10th of November, seems like it's a bit better of a state than whatever is happening with 3080.

Could be a yield issue with the 3080 - your 3070 is probably a 3080 with some bits disabled.

Well the presumptions on the 3080 shortage is because of the difficulty of obtaining GDDR6X at the moment, where as standard GDDR6 has been unaffected for the most part.

The 3070 isn't a 3080 with parts disabled. It's a different chip (GA102, GA104). Yields will be better on the 3070.

Taco:

My MSI 3080 Trio just shipped. The watch has finally ended.

Lucky you, I'm still waiting (trying to be patient) for my Asus TUF 10GB which I ordered early release day from Computer Lounge... - Getting a little nervous as I really don't want to miss out on the free Watchdogs...

I hear ya. To give you an idea, I ordered around 1:30am on launch day, and it took almost 6 weeks before it was shipped. I emailed them a couple of times and they never could give me an ETA. But maybe now after the AMD announcement and the 3070 release, it might ease the demand on the 3080. Good luck!

You need to email Computer Lounge ASAP about this, beware that you may not receive the code if you only 'pre-ordered' it as pre-orders can be cancelled.

Even if you have the code from CL/Asus there's also a chance it may expire by the end of November, if you haven't received your card by then. AFAIK you need the card physically installed in your PC for Geforce Experience to validate the code and give you the free game. As an hint PB Tech expects the TUF 3090s will arrive in December.

Anyway Uplay Plus is only ~$20 a month if you're impatient.

This latest round of videocard pricing reminds me about how the mobile handset industry somehow convinced everyone that $2000+ for a phone is somehow reasonable.

Well I am classed as being on "back order" not "pre-order" (whether that makes a difference or not I dunno) and they do state that if you have it back ordered then you cannot change your mind.

I'm waiting for the 3080 variant (sorry should have said that in my OP) but I will email them again and ask about it..
