For some unfathomable reason, I often seem to encounter failures in a cascading series. I started this thread to complain about a strange artefact on my screen. Richms suggested I make a video. I decided to start with a photo. But my camera was broken. But I had my tablet so I took the photo. But the USB transfer wouldn't work. I thought it was a simple problem but it seemed to escalate. I ended up deleting everything on the tablet. I couldn't get a connection with the pc. Other things stopped working. It ended up becoming a multi-day job. Eventually, with help from an Android site, I managed to narrow it to a cable. It was complicated because I had four cables and three were faulty in different ways. Eventually I found the one that worked and realised I had been chasing my tail (nothing new for me). Today I finally succeeded in tranferring the photos. Here they are. One shows the artefact in close-up, the other its location on the Geekzone screen. I'm sure nobody cares but I really needed to get those damned photos posted here.

I worked out that it is an artefact of my screen, but it is a strange one. I did a screen grab and captured the artefact to a static jpg file. Yet when I viewed it I still got the animated dots, as in they were dancing on a static image! This is only possible if the screen is creating the effect. I also have a VGA monitor and when I duplicate the screen to that there is no sign of the artefact. I also don't get the artefact on other parts of the screen or against other backgrounds. It seems to be a particular shade of dark grey that causes it.

The plot thickens. I have been using a Veon as an HDMI monitor. Yesterday I started getting other problems with the display, interference lines through it and the like. Today it was worse. I went through the cables and HDMI switch and other rigmarole. Finally, as is often the case with me, I thought of the obvious and switched inputs on the monitor. Everything magically cleared up, even the Matrix green dots. The problem input I was using also has the ARC channel on it I think. I swapped the Windows pc input with an Android device and now both inputs look fine. Go figure.

And throw away those faulty cables !!! They'll come back to haunt you otherwise.
