We use LastPass at work. It's great for remembering Website passwords, but it's irritating for other stuff. Specifically, I have to go through the whole 2FA to get to my passwords. When I do get into it, I have to find the site in the dashboard thing, and open it (admittedly, this can't be simplified much), but then I have to click on the spanner icon to "edit" it, click on the eye icon to see it, copy it, click on Cancel to stop editing. I'd prefer that last lot of clicks to be short-circuited by having a "copy the password" icon/button, like in Firefox. Chrome is similar, except it stupidly has "Copy Password" hidden in a hamburger menu.

Yeah. It's supposed to recognise the web form fields and do that all transparently but sometimes there seems to be something about the web page that it just doesn't work. Might be worth copying the password, then deleting the record from LastPass and logging in to get it to re-learn the page?

I found this the best way to get the PW manager to also untick the "Remember me" box. I don't want my email address stored in a cookie for every website.

PS Anybody use their PW manager with a QNAP NAS. I can't get Bitwarden to identify the username field. It just stays bank.

Same thing for me using dashlane and a qnap nas, if I click into the password field it auto fills though

Bitwarden!  I used LastPass until their free plan was restricted to one device type.  I use MacOS, Android and Windows and Bitwarden spans all of them.

Was it a pain in the butt to switch all your passwords over from LastPass to Bitwarden? Or do they have a login/password transfer wizard?

I was so annoyed when I signed up for the free LastPass, and literally a month later they changed their device type rules on the free version. By then I had already set it all up and password protected everything, so the thought of doing all that again was just too much lol. Yea I could pay for premium, but the number of paid subscriptions for various things I have these days is getting out of control - I realised this last week when filling in the forms for new home lending.

The switch to Bitwarden was very easy.  As I remember it I exported from LastPass and imported into Bitwarden.  It then offered to go through each of my browsers (that had the Bitwarden plugin installed) and import any browser-saved logins.  Haven't looked back!

I love Bitwarden, genuinely one of my favourite bits of software. I also self host it (i.e. Vaultwarden) but wouldn't hesitate to pay the very reasonable charge for premium if I didn't have a server.

How's the mobile integration with Bitwarden? Does it fill out login details on apps without issue or does it break sometimes?

It's mostly fine on iOS, there have been a couple of stubborn apps that aren't recognised, but a simple copy & paste from the Bitwarden app solves that niggle.

For ease of use with apps, you just have to select the default password list as Bitwarden instead of the default "passwords" under iOS settings.

All these comments and I have not seen a single mention of 1Password. I use 1Password for home and the company I worked for uses it for business. Allows scanning QR code on the desktop for OTP. works with ios and android.

I used to get 1password through work and it was a good service, I was seriously tempted to pay for it when I moved companies but thought I'd move over to bitwarden in the free tier. It's definitely not as polished as the paid 1password, I have issues with bitwarden bit always promoting on my phone where I never had that with 1password.

It's not a deal breaker by any means but if 1password offers a good discount at some point I'd consider going back.

It works fine on Android, but you have to use a particular URL format for it to autofill. eg androidapp://com.azure.authenticator

Without that I think you can still do a lookup and manual search.

Maybe you are looking for keyboard autofill?

To enable keyboard auto-fill on iOS:

  1. Open the iOS Settings app on your device.
  2. Tap Passwords.
  3. Tap AutoFill Passwords.
  4. Toggle AutoFill Passwords on and tap Bitwarden in the Allow Filling From list:

If the Android app URI is similar enough to the website URL, Bitwarden does suggest the correct password.

Keepass with db file sync'd via whatever file sync provider you prefer: One Drive or Drop Box etc means you're not tied into any particular provider.

Bitwarden is also good if you want a saas solution.

Lastpass breach is almost as bad as it can get.

Absolutely staggering. Whatever is left of it will be sued into the ground.
