It's an A01 as noted on the box and the pull-out card on the left hand side of the monitor.

No pink/green hue that I can detect.
Did a quick check of the colour diagnostic and all looks OK.
The white screen looked a bit odd, as it seemed 'darker' at the bottom. I do wear glasses. Tilted the screen and took my glasses off and stuck my nose to the screen (OK I was a bat in my last life) and it does look white. So may be attributed to 'optimal' viewing angle ..or curvature of the earth.
Currently using a DELL Dimension 4600 3.2Ghz with a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 so the monitor can out preform the graphic card and as such, can not test any games. Had a copy of PANZERS phase I and checked that and wow, very pretty at high graphics level, but the graphics card couldn't support the high end I/O. I love AGP...Not.
Plugged it into a New Zealand FreeView box via HDMI and viewed the demo channel (birds, seals and lizards) and one was suitably impressed.
- Build quality - excellent, easily adjustable base etc. DVI / USB cable could be longer, but not bad overall.
- OSD really well designed, the touch-screen buttons are pretty clever.
- Colour - looks excellent with no visible banding or dither. Using sRGB on Mac OS 10.6 and the latest ICM profile. Full white screen is uniform across the width of the screen, no pink or green tint. It's VERY bright at full.
Overall pretty nice first impression. Can't argue with the price either.
I use the built in calibrator in Mac OS X. I don't think any version of Windows is fully colour-managed, however you'll probably get reasonable results with sRGB mode and the Dell beta ICC profile.
Windows 7 has some inbuilt calibration tools for brightness, contrast and gamma. There is also the Lagom monitor test http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ That should get you most of the way, unfortunately true colour calibration requires a colorimeter and software = expensive. Try comparing some accurate photo prints to whats being displayed or just do it by eye as a last resort lol.

The HP L2475w is the exact same monitor for about $800 http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=324363 with the added bonus that you can actually walk into a store and buy it.

It's the exact same panel, not the exact same monitor. For one thing it doesn't have an sRGB mode, so you have to be happy with the nuances of wide gamut.
Though for what it's worth I quite like my U2410 in the wide-gamut modes...

From what i've been reading up the HP apparently has better blacks, downsides being it has more input lag although that doesn't really matter since it'll be mostly for CAD, coding and a few movies...
so for a couple hundred less i'd say i'll get the hp, will need to find someone with a colorimeter as the default settings aren't the best.
also what does the sRGB setting do on the dell? I've just really started researching monitors, new to the terminology and such.
A mate has a laptop with that display... its really impressive, never seen another laptop display as good. Can't compare it to a u2410 tho as i don't have one.... although it is a laptop screen and by default has limitations. Seems to be decent and most of the complaints are due to the screen being wide gamut 105% of NTSC colour space..
