There is also the Contractual Mistakes Act 1977 where they don't have to honour it if the mistake is genuine. You often seen correction advertisements in store, correcting the error. SOme stores are forever displaying these. But often the good stores will honour errors, as it doesn't look good for them when they don't.

That may be true however once payment has been accepted then they can no longer contest the contract. Prior to that they might still be held accountable - if not for the sale then you can try misleading advertising.

I am quite happy with my newly acquired monitor and have no regrets.

On another note: This are the common mistakes that one gets when one outsources to countries with cheaper labour.

Unfortunately in the longer term this outsourcing will lead to a depression. Or as I normally say: "The situation is the same as in the 1930. They have moved manufacturing away from the consumer base and expect consumers, who are now out of a job, to have the same purchasing power". We all know whom we have to thank for this.

I agree that once the payment has been processed and the emails confirming the sale have been processed, you do get into a grey area. You do get NZ computer shops who sometimes make a pricing mistake on tehir website (mentioned here before), people pounce on the deal, and their automated processing systems process the order. The company then contacts the cusomter to say they can't complete the order due to it being an error, and that they have now refunded the amount and canceled the order.
The outsourcing of manufacturing of service and products to china, india etc has already led to the current financial problems, and isn't helped by those countries not spending their money, but instead lending it to the west.
Just wish I had got this deal in time, could have done with another 24 inch IPS to dual screen with my dell 2410. The 2410 is a better monitor, but the 2412 looks great value for $200..

Received mine today as well.

What calibration tools are people intending to use?

Borrow a Spyder unit + software. Make a note of the finished adjusted settings. Rejoice.

Search of the web shows a large spread of settings, I tried all those that I could find.   Investing substantial amount of money (edit) was not justified (end edit) for "casual" photo use (< 5% of the time) and more for other activities(edit) . In the end (end edit) I resorted to first lowering the brightness to 50 and subsequently using the following website for "eyeball" setting the monitor.

So I rung up about trying to order on Saturday evening - DELL Sales Rep took my details and called back today.
Got rung up now, told it was a price mistake but she would offer it to me for $250.
I said I'm willing to do $200, so I've just purchased 1 unit for $200.

At the time it was listed for $200 I was house sitting, so didnt have visa on me.
When I got home later that afternoon. It wouldnt let me buy.

Fortunately Dell has been nice and offered a compromise. They rung and offered for $250 as well.

I decided to go for it.

Kudos to Dell for putting in some effort.

Spyder 3/4 express is a good calibrator for Dell LED LCD displays. Older calibrators apparently have trouble with the LED backlight, according to a guy who's a real expert in the field (he trades equipment and ideas with the dry creek photo guys).
