I work remotely a fair bit, but to be honest, I'd also MUCH rather be at my office.

... and here's me hoping I never have to go to the office again.

Does anyone have any favourite Bluetooth headphones with a mic? Doing a fair bit of time on the iPhone and Zoom meetings etc. while WFH. Thinking of investing in something better than I have already for use at home, but also when I return to the office to keep down background noise, so noise cancelling would be an advantage. As would being able to connect to my computer and iPhone at the same time. Loads of options out there so just wondered if anyone has a recommendation.

I just use my Jabra Elite Sport earbuds. They work great.

Otherwise if you want full headset style you can't go far wrong with Jabra in general.

You might want to consider the Jabra Evolve 75e.

  • Pro

    • Very secure fit in the ear due to extra "wings"
    • 14hr battery life without active noise cancelling (ANC)
    • 2 devices simultaneous connection (according to Jabra. I've not tried it)
    • Good audio quality (I am no audiophile)
  • Con

    • $$$ (ouch)
    • Not well balanced, battery & neck band can slip backwards off shoulders. frequency = 1/week

I was willing to pay the money, but the falling off the shoulders can be irksome.

btw, have you checked out the "The headphones thread! [Sorry about your wallet]" thread?

Buy a headset designed for this use, that is also ok for music. There are a few nice to haves you'll miss out on otherwise.

Checkout this: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-wireless-headset-for-the-office/

I have the favourite from a couple of years ago - Plantronics Focus UC (https://www.plantronics.com/us/en/product/voyager-focus-uc)

Things to look for - a dedicated dongle for the PC - not standard bluetooth - much higher audio quality when listening to music etc, and much much better range. I can get 1/2 way across the house with these, vs just out the door with my cheap bluetooth in ear ones.

A charging stand - with my old logitech ones I cannot count the amount of times I'd come back and they'd be flat because I forgot to turn them off/plug the cable in. Charging stand solves this.

Depending on your environment at home - a noise cancelling microphone. I have a small army of children, and when using a mike on standard ear buds they can be heard, even when in a different room. With the plantronics one - not at all.

Mute that works with your software. We use teams, and I can mute on teams, and unmute using the physical button on the headset, or the other way around. It's seamless, and such a nice to have. Not having to think how you muted yourself is a lifesaver - especially for quick interjections. Otherwise that 20 seconds of screwing around means you've missed your chance.

AFAIK The Jabra units generally have similar feature set.

Buy for your primary use case - if it's zoom meetings etc, buy for that - makes life so much easier.

EDIT: Supports different ringtones for your phone and your PC - so you know what is calling you.

Yeah I should add to my comment - I have a quiet home.  Just me and my wife.  The most noise is from her students when she's video calling with them, or from the dog barking when he hears me talking upstairs and can't see who I'm talking to...which is usually a computer screen :)

I'm not really a full headset fan, the buds do me just fine and the experience on the other end is never complained about (e.g. no muffling, distance, echo, etc).  But if your environment dictates a full headset go for it.

I would say though - good luck getting one.  Companies (like mine) have been buying headsets in bulk lately for their WFH people.  If you're in a position to get your employer to get it for you, do that, especially if they're an essential service as they may be able to get a prioritised delivery.

After almost 3 weeks since I was told to go home and be told we will call you when we want you back at work..

I kinda wish I had a job I could do from home! It might keep me on the sane side of things until everyone is allowed to travel again.

I'm just jealous of you all having work to do, so keep it up!

Ive been using my bose QC35 for years for this purpose, the fact they support multiple devices is great as I dont have to unpair from my phone where I normally have them paired for music playback. Most meetings I have are via skype/msteams and it has been commented that my voice is always very clear....from what I hear it seems that some of my cow-orkers appear to have opted for paknsave wired microphone inserted into a body cavity.

its just the way it looks isnt it, the arm is in the middle, its just been rotated so the left screen is parallel to the desk and the other one is on the angle.
