The arm bracket is on the right side by the Echo. I had to put it there so I could fit the Dell monitor on the left of the desk. Worked out quite well actually. Initially I wanted the Dell mounted but it was just slightly too heavy for the mount, disappointingly given it's 7kg and the bracket is rated for 8kg.

ive got a dell 34in widescreen and looking at dual monitor mount for it, but its 8.x kg so need a pretty decent mount for it

Ta, I bought a locktek one that just wouldn't let me get them how I wanted them.. they arms on that one looks like they extend a bit further and will be perfect for my monitors

I would fondle a derelict for a decent fresh barista coffee right about now... kicking myself for my previous opinion that buying a barista machine is a waste of money!

Hell, even just being in the office sounds nice. Guess we will find out momentarily when that will happen...

Any-who, I am starting to think it might be worth getting a decent sized (>= 1500Hx700D) height-adjustable desk for home, since I can see the work-from-home situation persisting for awhile and the dining table isn't cutting it. So any of you appropriately equipped folks have recommendations to that end?

@gehenna, would you be so kind as to share where you got that desk from? Looks pretty robust.

I have a couple of questions, apologies in advance if already discussed.

There are some blurred lines between work and home.

I still have job and being paid. Home internet is good.

Setup is less than ideal, don't have separate office, very much less productive, running out of office work. Displaced home equipment for work gear.

Next week will be able to do some fieldwork, based from home. Site investigations, and project management of construction.

So using home internet, power, cell phone, and next week vehicle. Storing and charging office and field equipment. Grateful to have some work, but there are some personal costs. As an employee I don't see any compensation or tax breaks. For short term it's not a problem, if a longer term it's a more significant sacrifice.

I could consider discussion of change of employment status. Suck it up and carry on, as I expect most of us will. Is there anything that I have missed?

I should contact insurer about using my vehicle for work, so that i'm covered?

At the office you get lit, heated and coffeed, and sugar. and power for microwave etc. No commuting costs. Swings and roundabouts

You should check your insurance for your car. Many policies have exclusions for using them for work. We discovered that with my wife when she had a not her fault accident. Luckily her employer paid the repair costs for her.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

As an employee, you used to be able to claim employment-related expenses against your tax. So you could claim a slice of your home costs (power, phone, internet, insurance, rent, mortgage interest?, etc) if you had a home office, or designated area you used as a home office. Has that changed?

A: Not as an employee, if a small business/ sole trader/ contractor then yes.

2. You should check your insurance for your car. Many policies have exclusions for using them for work. We discovered that with my wife when she had a not her fault accident. Luckily her employer paid the repair costs for her.

A: Typical exclusion in policy. I phoned an explained use travel to and from local work sites with limited equipment. They said OK providing not carrying expensive power tools or carting goods.

Any suggestions on something to replace my V-Moda boompro mic? It's basically been perfect and I have used it for nearly four years but it's starting to cut out and occasionally I'm just inaudible to anyone else. This is especially frustrating at the moment as I'm doing a lot of video calls etc for work. I would buy it again but they aren't available on Amazon anymore and I think my preference would be to buy locally anyway.

At the moment I think the Antlion Modmic Uni or USB is in the lead. I was also considering something like a Blue Yeti but it's probably overkill as I'm mostly just using it to talk to people and it may even be a bad choice because it's probably going to pick up background sound i.e. keyboard.

The employer of my wife has offered $20 per week towards electricity. Very nice of them & seems generous based on our monthly usage.

My son uses a Blue Snowball for his streams and gaming stuff and finds that to be excellent - obviously not going to be the quality of a Yeti, but not a bad second choice...

The employer of my wife has offered $20 per week towards electricity. Very nice of them & seems generous based on our monthly usage.

That's quite generous of her employer.

We got a few inquiries early on from our staff who are WFH looking for compensation for increased utility usage. In each case when asked to review their total outgoings of WFH vs coming in to the office they were quite a bit better off WFH. That quickly silenced all but the most stubborn.
