Has anyone found a reliable method of getting Drobo units in NZ?

The new Firewire 800 version would be a great business tool for me as a photographer. I have found somewhere in Oz you can get them but nowhere here. I could order from USA I guess but just wondered if there was anywhere else?

I second that. Would love to get one for home, but bringing them from the US seems a little bit expensive.

Where did you find in AU?

Mac Doctors are listed on Data Robotics' site as Australian reseller.

Maybe we could ask the nice people at Tosh if they could bring some in from the US?

Geektastic: I have emailed Jens at Tosh - will report back!

Heard back - super quick service!

Jens says that he will look into it and agrees that they look good. The issue may be dealing with warranty matters if they arise.

He says he will keep me posted and I will pass on any updates here!

(PS I hope this doesn't count as link dropping!)

I have received a tip from Kevin Rose (digg.com) for $100 off the 2nd generation. Use the code 'krose' when shopping.

Unfortunately... But it might be good to send these to Jen at toshbuy.com.

I'm keen on one of these.  I spoke to Mac Doctors a while ago and they said they would be able to ship one to NZ for around $1200 (from memory).  Which to me is far to expensive for the unit alone with no drives.  When I asked for more details however they never got back to me.  That was several months ago now.

How would about $935 sound? For the Firewire800 unit?

Not too outrageous if it included delivery and GST I guess.

In the US, NZ$1200 equivalent gets you the FW800 unit plus 2x 1Tb drives.

We have been in touch with those folks and are happy to buy a full pallette full, about $30,000 worth, of gear from them, but we want the exclusive NZ dealership in return so we don't get stuck with this stuff. They are working their way through their own comlicated process, and once I know the product is available, I'll let you know.
