Hi,

just need some advice regarding a lg 29um69g monitor that has stopped working.

It was purchased July 2017, is this still covered by the consumer guarantees act as it is just over 3 years old.

Yes, I have tried different hdmi cable's and connected it to a laptop. no display, even the OSM wont display,

It does make be appreciate a gaming monitor compared to the temporary monitor connected at the moment.

Any advice would be helpful.

Does this LG use a separate power pack, if so that may be faulty (not the actual monitor)

It may be more trouble than its worth to try & make a CGA claim .
The CGA doesnt give any exact time frame of how long things should last , its all up for debate on how long , so you might have to fight every step of the way .

I'd be pretty disappointing in your situation, and ask the same question.

My best response is this:  https://www.consumer.org.nz/articles/appliance-life-expectancy#article-electronic-appliances

Just a heads up, LG has REALLY bad repair facilities for their monitors in NZ, even when under warranty

During the first L4 lockdown my three 27UD69-W monitors all started to develop the same fault after ~2 years from purchase. LG initially directed me to call 2 different service centres which told me they only serviced whiteware.

Eventually I was directed to Teletech Electronics and dropped them off some time in May, only collected them at the start of August. Three month wait without the monitors because LG Australia took that long to dispatch replacement parts.

Upon setting the monitors back up, one of them now has an even worse fault than what I returned them for, but the repair took so long the first time around I'm questioning whether it's even worth returning them a second time

Long story short, I would strongly recommend you deal with the retailer you purchased it from directly because you will have more leeway to demand complete replacement if repairs take too long. Unfortunately I thought taking it to the LG authorised repairer directly would save time but ended up waiting 4 months

This 100%. Where did you buy it from? Yes -  a monitor should 100% last 3 years, we have monitors here that have been working and mostly on for easily 8+ years in an office environment

If I were you, contact your retailer through Facebook messaging, social media managers tend to be more helpful than instore (very large assumption here, but it's been my experience) and should be able to get the right info to help you.

If not, at least you can approach them instore and say you tried your best to resolve this without going instore.

In store workers are much more likely to help you if you've tried to help yourself first!

Thanks all, I will go and see retailer next week, yes it uses a power brick, it does have power to monitor as there is a faint light in screen, it's like it's on standby or something.

Just had a quick read of the above consumer institute link, say's TV's 7-8 years and computer's 5 years, so I guess a monitor should last about 6 years, I go with that when I see the retailer about it.

No need for CGA. The monitor is covered by LG's 3yr warranty.

Contact LG to request an RMA 0800 542 273.

On a personal level, I cant remember the last time I had a monitor fail in under a decade, and even working in IT with fleets of thousands of monitors  I can only ever recall a literal handful having failed in less than 5.

I'd definitely make a CGA claim if it's only a few months over 3 years.

Can you see any image if you shine a torch on the screen? I wonder if it is the backlight that has failed, as that has happened on one of mine before. If so, you should still be able to see the image, but need a torch to see it.

There is a hold down key and power-up factory reset sequence worth a try in case it's an odd stuck standby thing.

I have only had backlight failures on monitors. Early LED ones and half of them going out on a couple. Should still be going strong after 3 years.

My Dell flatscreen LCD from 2006'ish (give or take a year or 2). , just failed several months ago.

I'm pretty certain you would easily win in disputes.

I think this thread jinxed me.

I disassembled the Inspiron below a couple days ago to swap out the HDD & CPU.  Working perfectly.

This morning - all  lights are on but nobody home.

Fwiw the only backlight issue I've seen in recent years was a client's 2016 MacBook Pro 13".

A replacement was over $800. Typical Apple price gouging..

Also the LCD screen on my BMW nav unit lost it's backlight after jump starting with the nav  screen powered on. I pulled the monitor out, a 5v Transistor had fried.
