Hi, Ive been looking at pc parts for about 2 months now on deciding what to get. I plan of getting the parts in January or the start of February before i start my next course. Ill be doing plenty of Virtual PC running for my course running servers etc. I also do lots of video converting sence i like to stream videos to my phone, laptop, tv etc etc and parents seems to some how wreck dvds so fast its not funny. I also love to play games thats why im putting two HD6850 in crossfire and will have 8gb of ram for running virtual pcs. I also not to bad at overclocking all my desktop pcs have been overclocked :O Now i know the AMD II x6 1055T is faster when all 6 cores are used to the i5 760 but slower if not all being used. And i also know the Intel overclocks very well from it stock clocks so does the AMD but not as well. I can't decided and ive used AMD and Intel cpus so im not loyal to one type so no fanboy comments please. Im leaning towards the AMD cpu but any help would be nice.

id get amd for gaming or heavy usage. (movie processing)
in general everyday computing, intel would be more efficient.

thats pretty much it

Ive got the AMD and so far its brilliant - only issue I had was the stock fan was like a friggin 747 after I'd been playing for a while and it heated up..

i personally think, after reading the reviews, and based on own experience, that the 955 and 965 black edition quad cores from amd perform better than the new 6 cores from amd.
sure 6 cores is better, but the 955 and 965 have much better coolers and can be overclocked without worry.

I have been using the AMD for 6 months and it is great, though my video card doesnt push it as much as your setup will!

u should get intel 908x. rest of ur pc is insane, why not processor too?

The price will be even more insane than before then lol i think the Intel 980x is about 5-6 times the cost of the these cpus lol

if you're going to do a lot of virtualisation, try and get a board that can handle 16GB ram in 4 or 8 slots. 8GB runs out really fast.

Yes I'll still have two free ram slots so i was going to see how well 8gb goes for me. Atm going with two 4gb chips. I hate when you have to remove old ram because you run out of slots so i always go for large single chips instead.

Why not go for one of the new Intel Sandy Bridge platforms? The specs & benchmarks look awesome!

For now, just a HD5770, though I intend to get another one and use them in crossfire for my birthday in March :)

When I was looking at the cards, for my sort of budget the 5770 just seemed to destroy the equivalent nvidia cards. And I would have probably rathered an nvidia card too, as my previous 6600GT and Geforce 4 were both great in my old desktop, but it really works well. In Starcraft2, I had it using 6.5GB ram in one game, ridiculous. Think it would have been more if the video card could have handled it lol.

duuuude 5770 is what i have. destroys every game.
i loaded star craft 2 and im only using 31% or my 8gb ram. you must have some background programs running or some thing?

One of the custom games, Clone Wars or something like that where there are, like, 1200 units on the map :)
