I have 2 main questions:

1- Does Tungsten E or Zire 71 have excel like apllications? Are they good enough to worl (if exist)?

2- What is the main difference between Tungsten E (or ZIre 71) and a pocket pc like hp ipaq1930? I mean, in what reports to applications (work, not games) and software, wich you would say that is better? DO you think that Tungsten E is good enough to face against the pocktes pcs (that have windows and all that good stuff)?

The Tungsten E comes with a suite of software called Chapura Documents To Go, including a spreadsheet and word processor. It's really a good software.

Comparing the Palm and Pocket PC is hard. They're both good on their own. I used to have Palm devices, and now I'm going along well with Pocket PC. For a while Palm OS had more software available, but this is no longer an advantage. The Pocket PC offers bigger screen, models with Bluetooth and wi-fi, while most Palm devices have either one (except some Sony Clie models, but these are going out of the market). Synchronisation on a Pocket PC requires Microsoft Outlook (which comes on a CD included with every Pocket PC), so if you don't use this software this will be something against it.

The use of SD/MMC card on a Pocket PC is different from a Palm, and programs can be installed and run easily from there. On the other hand Palm programs tend to be smaller and use a simpler interface.

I'm sure others will say something about one or the other platform.

I know more people who have converted from Palm to Pocket PC than the other way.... but that is just my experience....

I used to have a Palm and switched to Pocket PC. Never looked back.

Recovering technology geek, business owner, Christian, generally friendly.

I currently own a palmOne Zire '72' and previously owned a Casio E-100 Palmsize Pc, an Ipaq 1910 Pocket Pc. After nearly 3 years of good service the Casio died of natural causes. The Ipaq 1910 died of connector failure. The palmOne Tungsten 'E' model did indeed live up to it's promise of being able to view and edit word documents as well as view spreadsheets. The 'E' model gave way to the Zire '72' which currently serves me well. It too, views and edits 'Microsoft Word' docs and also has a relitively low purchase price as opposed to the competition. I find that the desktop 'Docs to Go' program is very useful from the formatting standpoint. It can convert word docs to palm or word docs to palm in handheldview to make for easier viewing on the handheld. The clincher for me was the free software available for the palm as opposed to pocket pc. The palm is faster at opening programs than the two previously owned pocket pc's. The aformentioned 1910 Ipaq does have the best quality display of the three handhelds. If you have to work outdoors the 1910 is my choice for ease of viewing. For ease of operation the palm device works for me. You will have to weigh out your needs of environment verses operating system verses other uses you may put the pda to. The '72' does have a built in camera for photos and video clips (w/memory card installed) for the 'one that got away'. Pda's are not just workhorses anymore. I hope this is of some help.

I converted from pocket pc to palm - i was using a "Falcon" pdaphone from Telecom then moved to a Treo 600. As pointed out both have pros and cons but i must say i find docs 2 go excel syncs a lot better than pocket pc excel, plus i still find that i can find a lot more software for palm devices than pocket pc, plus palm just annoucned selling 1.5 million Tungsten E's today!!!
