Does it have all the different GSM, UMTS network options under "settings/phone/services/Band selection" ?. So we can switch to from AUTO to GSM,UTMS.

Yes, unlike the 3AU ROM which required the Extended ROM to be modified to select GSM instead of UMTS, you can select from:
Type: Auto / GSM / UMTS
Band: Auto / GSM(900+1800)+UMTS 2100 / GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)

My theory on why this ROM works and others didn't is that the IMEI number doesn't end in a "0" anymore... although this is purely speculative and probably nothing to do with why incoming phones calls were dumped on the other 1.48 / 1.52 Radio ROMs :D

It's a great ROM, if this is the best it gets for Treo with WM6, then I'll say now I'm happy with that.

Hmmm just tried to install the worldwide ROM over top of the AT&T version I'm running and no go using the updater. Tried then to do it via the mini SD card using the CHEEIMG.nbh file and still no go, just locks in the multi coloured cscreen after I push the side button and reset.

Anyways..it boots normally back to the AT&T version no probs.

So I tried the NZ 1.16 updater to refresh the device back to wm5 or thats what I thought it did, but installer says I don't need the file.

Question: Is there a worldwide WM5 version anywhere or is the NZ VF version around?

Not that it matters, as the ear piece speaker in my device has started packing up and needs a service, and knowing the silly installers, they'll hard reset the device and blat whatever I have in there anyway.

Oh the joys of being a Geek in the Zone!

P.S What do you guys think of the HTC touch/slider keyboard? Its like the Pearl. For me, the Treo keyboard is going to be a hard to beat...it is just so good for entering appointments and tasks, writing emails or txt on the fly.

P.P.S How in the world are we ever going to be able to upgrade these devices when they are so good now? All I need now is a slightly longer screen and built in GPS + WiFi and I'll be happy. Going back to the brick style device like the HTC tilt thingy to get all those features is just a no go for me b/c of the size and lose of keyboard. What is the solution? Are the on screen keyboards any good really, or are the Pearl type key boards any good?

Sorry for the long post.

This was a very good meeting... I met Olivier Rozay, Country Manager Palm Australia & New Zealand this morning.

First of all, the Vodafone NZ ROM is still being tweaked and tested, as I posted earlier. He thinks it could be another couple of weeks before it's released.

As for the reason for the meeting, he showed me the Palm Treo 500v, which has been already released by Vodafone UK and Vodafone AU, and should be announced here in New Zealand stores pretty soon - as early as in a couple of weeks (although Vodafone told me three weeks, but at this stage it doesn't matter).

I've had a quick look at the Treo 500v a couple of months ago, but couldn't say anything, but it's now public knowledge so I can reveal a bit more.

Yes, it's the first Windows Mobile device that completely integrates with Vodafone live! and it brings a new user interface. I have the impression I read somewhere this is actually the first implementation of a common UI Vodafone wants to bring to all their phones.

Anyway, it's also running Windows Mobile 6 Standard (a.k.a. Smartphone) instead of the traditional Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition the Treo runs. This means no touch screen - but the UI makes for it.

As for the screen - what a difference from the Treo 750v. No more square screen!

More on this when I get a device for a full review, which should be sometime soon.

Ahh this whole Treo 750V Vodafone WM6 thing has taken so long... so I've bought an Iphone which is sooo nice to use. Between the two devices they both have their strengths and weaknesses (WM5 and failing to ring on the Treo being the most annoying) however I think the vodafone simcard will live in the Iphone for the majority of the time.

The Iphone third party apps are amazing, interface is fantastic, and it doesnt crash - Steve Jobs has done a good job here!!  If you get chance to play with an Iphone, I guarantee you'll want one.

The Iphone is All Good!!

I lost the hope of seeing the Windows Mobile 6 update for Treo 750v out in New Zealand.

That's why it looks like buying anything with a Vodafone customisation seems to be a bad plan... Forget about the Treo 500v if you are thinking it will come with the rumoured Windows Mobile 6.1 any time. And forget about Windows Mobile 6.1 on Treo 750v - it looks like this would be only available in the U.S.

By the way, Palm has announced the Treo 750 (not the Vodafone custom version) in the U.S. today, plus AT&T has officially released their update.

Way to go Vodafone...

I'm thinking - Blackberry Curve 8310

Has GPS, 2.0 mb camera. Not 3G, but who cares about that?
It's lighter, smaller, better battery life and kindy funky.

Mauricio, what do you think? Blackberry Curve 8310 a good way to go for my next phone? I'm kinda over WM.

Thoughts on that idea?

Happy Xmas

someone pointed out an article in the iStart magazine titled "windows mobile 6 is coming to new zealand" with pictures of the okta touch and the palm treo 750.  the treo 750, however, was noiticibly abset from the article that accompanied it - only the 500 was mentioned

i wonder what the big holdup with the NZ rom is.  I've been running on the irish one for what must be a couple of months now and havent experienced any problems.  its a much more pleasant experience than the wm5 version was and I no longer seem to 'miss' calls

Would there be any chance that this new Australian firmware can be shared here? There seems to be some problem downloading the firmware from Palm's web site. The error message was, for some reason, in Spanish so I'm not sure what was wrong.

Thanks
