Thank you for your offer of support.  For the benefit of all readers, could you post the link to the product that we need to purchase online and any tips and hints?  Thank you.

You need the mapsource program in order to send them to your device.

And how did you do it? Did you order it from Expansys or from somewhere else? Or just downloaded the sw from somewhere? How long did it take to arrive? And from where you downloaded the free NZ maps for it?

Wee problem. I have also got Garmin XT Mobile running on N95. Garmin is happily picking up the GPS signal and I have downloaded the NZ open source map from the link 2 pages before this. Placed them inside the Garmin directory and deleted the base map that garmin mobile XT came with which was for Europe. But if I go to find address I get the Error, "Detailed maps are required to use this feature. Visit Garmin.com for more information."

Just wondering how to get around this problem. The NZ open source maps I downloaded had about 8~9 .img files which I placed them all inside the Garmin folder.

Do whatever you want to do man.

You need to add them to your card with Garmin's Maploader software - it's possible to get a free working copy. Just google for it and you'll find it.

I got mine from Expansys, and then added to my own 8GB card. I won't go into details about how, as I believe this would also enable people to install cracked copies on their phones, but suffice to say that google can provide the answers.

Good god Garmin's mapsource software sucks....took 6 installs before it installed properly...kept saying please install again....seemed like a common problem on google as well...

hats down...the open source map is very very good...thanks heaps to the author of it for putting a lot of effort into it...

one question - How do i find addresses? I click on Find Address and it only gives 1 option which is Find State? I put Waikato or even Auckland but nothing appears....any particular way to find address in the open maps? please help.

I haven't mastered addresses yet, but I can search for streets and be routed to them. Check the NZ Open Maps forums - theres instructions there. Basically you need to download another piece of Garmin software, the POI loader, and load NZ streets as a custom POI set. Then you go to "Where to?", Extras, Custom POI and enter the street name.

What software you need
How to set this up-folders to put what in etc

Cheers

Good luck! I've been finding the routing really good. Usually takes the most natural routes, and if you take a wrong turn it recalculates on the fly. Used it for a few days now. Got the sound balance right for listening to the music player at the same time too (via Belkin tunecast), set the music player to 70-80% and the audio in Garmin to 100% - that way your voice guidance is nice n clear over the music. You'll probably want the V20 firmware to try that though!
