Starting this as a new thread for those interested in the GPS side of the N95.
I am currently working on a New Zealand map for MGMaps, entire country down to level 10 (3km) and major cities down to level 15 (100m) ie street level with full street names.
If anyone is interested in using this map then let me know, be aware it is going to end up in excess of 200mb so you need a big card :-)

MGMaps, as well as being able to access the network to download map tiles (hence incurring data charges) is also developing a way of downloading map tiles and stitching them to gether into a map that stores on your phone memory card. What this means is you have no data charges when using the GPS!
At the moment the system to generate the map tiles is quite complex, utilizing perl scripts etc but now that I have figured it all out there seems little point in everyone having to go down the same path so I am happy to make available the map to anyone interested. No doubt the map will evolve and gain more detail as I add more cities.
I have to figure out how to make this file available, any ideas there anyone?

definatly interested. Got to figure out how to stop mgmaps from crashing. The new software might have done the trick.

Could be coincidence but after moving to v12 I have had no problems with it crashing. It still loses its settings occasionally but no doubt this will be corrected eventually.

Two important things, make sure you install the app from the JAD file, not the JAR file and make sure that theMapscache file is marked as hidden, otherwise the OS thinks that it has to thumbnail all those thousands of map tiles hence creating "out of memory" problems.

Well I have completed the New Zealand map with country-wide detail down to level 10 or 3K and with Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin down to level 15 or 100m. If I knew how to post a jpg here I could show the resolution achieved.
Size is currently 60mb. If you would like a copy of this map I think the best way is to send me a blank CD and an addressed envelope for it. If you are not in one of the 4 major cities or have a need for another town to be included, let me know. Send a PM and I will give you an address to send to.
