I got my N95 off trade me, it's a Singapore one but unbranded and therefore pretty stable thus far. Mapping in chch is pretty limited as of yet. Have downloaded the 5MB NZ map to the card. ONly main streets, not much detail.
Waiting for the mysterious 33MB map, is this really coming??
Have downloaded USA and Australia and turned on turn by turn navigation for the States as I'm off there for a conference tomorrow. Also dowloaded city guide to San Francisco and San Diego , so will report back how that go's  when I get back.
The wifi browsing rocks!

I got mine from Parallel Imported, and I must say I am very impressed. No extra charge for credit card payments, and they have alot of stock.

By the way, I must say I am a little disappointed at the quality of the 5MP Camera. However, the browser works really well! :) And I feel it renders webpages better than Pocket IE on my PDA.

Well, connected to my first WLAN today (cafe two doors down the road is a hotspot. Also got my first GPS lock, took 30secs, which is pretty cool.

So far still loving it.

Battery log:

Day 1 Battery log:

Switch on at 6am
10 minutes bluetoothing some music over
5 minutes installing some lovely Babi/Pasco themes
1.5 hours listening to music over car radio during the day
30 minutes talk time
30 minutes reading some reference PDFs
20 minutes GPS (first lock in ~30seconds, well happy)
20 minutes mucking around with WLAN and browsing
~6 photos and ~5 minutes video (mostly to show off to others)
~40 text messages
Another 15 minutes or so of bluetoothing files to my Fiance (got her an N95 for her Birthday; it must be love eh?)
Near continuous playing with the phone to personalise it/familiarise with it Very Happy So backlight on almost all day. . .

Realised at about 4pm that I had neglected to switch it to GSM only (so running most of the day in dual mode), switched it over. Had WLAN scanning and bluetooth off except when using.

First battery warnings at about 7:45pm, put it on charger at 9:15pm (hadn't quite fully discharged, but can't have been far from it). So, 15 and 1/4 hours from first charge with heavy "wow, playing with my new toy, check it out everyone"-type usage. I'm happy with the battery life, especially since it should improve with successive charges.

Brilliant phone.

EDIT: For those who are concerned with 'conditioning' their batteries - I switched mine on straight away, drained most of the charge it came with, put it on the charger and kept it on while I played with stuff, and then switched it off to charge fully overnight. So, basically I ignored all those old ideas we have about conditioning batteries and memory lining, and it seems fine. I was emboldened by the fact that I have a second battery coming to me

Official price from Parallel Imports is now $1379, changed on the main page now to match the earlier reported drop. Still not showing any stock on the website though. Pity they don't have a stock-watch function on the site.

So - as well as all the buying options, what useful goodies have people found to put onto their shiny new N95, or tips & tricks that you've found?

Parallel imported have received a shipment of N95 today which consists of just the sand coloured handsets.

I had called them up as on there website it states they have 2 available colours.

Yea, connected my N95 to our home WiFi network earlier. It was worrying me at first because it wouldn't connect to the internet but I then realized that I had Mac address filtering turned on and after adding my phone to that, it was all good. I was also worried about the GPS but it was just that I wasn't giving it enough time to lock on to the signal from the satellites. It doesn't actually take that long but I was expecting it to happen immediately, forgetting that it said that it might take up to a few minutes.

Map loader is slow, I don't know why so I'm going to see if I can get my phone to load the maps via WLAN. The maps that are avaiable for NZ are, to be frank, crap. They are unaccurate with the placement of the roads is bad so I will be waiting for the revision of the maps in New Zealand. I will be waiting for DarkVader's review of the maps in the US as I will be going there for just over a month at the end of the year and will want to know if it is worth buying the extra functions.

The music quality is exceptional with good headphones so I was amazed. I think that this phone could certainly replace an iPod for anyone who has both.

P.s. I have bought the Sand colour as I personally like that colour the best.

EDIT: American maps are very good quality.

So, did anyone find downloading maps via MapLoader takes ages? My download of the 5MB NZ map took around an hour, eventhough I can download at over 500kB/s from other sites.

Also, I can't seem to be able to configure IP, and DNS server settings for WLAN on the N95. Anyone got a workaround?

I got the Plum coloured one from Parallel Imported, and the guy I talked to at Parallel Imported said the Plum one was the hotter of the two, so I'm not sure why they took a new shipment of the Sand coloured one only. Or I could have been fooled by the salesperson? Innocent

Sand is champagne although it is not as much of a champagne in real life as it is in photos.

I do like the sand colour though.

In my few weeks with this phone so far I have noticed something odd. Two times so far I have felt the phone is warm in my pocket and the battery drops off over a matter of 1-2 hours.

It seems like something very processor intensive is happening which is causing the battery to drain so quickly. WiFi, bluetooth and GPS have been off when this has happened. To be honest I have not checked to see if any applications were running in the background, only really twigged when the phone went dead one night the second time it happened after only a days usage, I thought it was just me imagining things at the time.

There is a new software update shortly I believe which fixes a known issue with youtube playback via wifi amonst other things

Hi everyone,

I was talking to a guy at Vodaphone and I think he was just using scare tactics, but can anyone who has an N95 already phone confirm:
* Sending pxts works OK
* You are able to use the SKYTV on your mobile service

Also, do the chargers that come with the phones have the cord that you can completely swap out for one with an NZ plug or do you have to fit and carry an adapter?

Thanks for your help!!

Hi guys,

This phone is just great.  I have used it for over a week now and I am amazed by:
*Multitasking abilities - I am texting, listening to music, browsing the web and downloading a podcast all at the same time!
*Sound - I have used all high-end Nokia phones and this by far out does every other N-Series device in terms of its stereo
*Fairly stable firmware.  No crashes yet and runs fairly flawlessly

Don't listen to what Vodafone says.  To be honest, we here all know more than them.

PXT works fine - in fact, you don't even need to set it up.  Once you insert your SIM card, the phone automatically configures the settings for you.
SMS works fine - as above.
Plug - you can use plugs from Asia, Europe or the States, makes no difference.  You may need to purchase a little plug to fit into the wall ($2 from the $2 shop)
Vodafone Live - works fine.  Vodafone Live did have issues with Nseries phones before but now the site is Nseries compatible.

Good luck mate.

Updated battery log above for completeness.

Only incompatibility with V-Fone so far is that they sent a text telling me that Hotlink is incompatible, so they have disabled it, and they urge me to change handsets (its incompatible, but you disabled it? along with the encouragement for me to change to a branded handset colour me suspicious. . . ).

As mentioned the phone will auto-configure to V-Fone, which is just brilliant (I was expecting to have to trawl around for settings to input etc, but no need whatsoever).

I agree on sound quality, very good, loving it in the car played over the car stereo via belkin tunecast.

Yeah, I too have had the phone go dead suddenly. Bluetooth was on, wifi off. Was at the Crusaders vs Hurricanes and not sure what was working in the background. Bet it was Vodafone NZ giving me evils for not waiting for their handset.

I have just been looking at the American maps and they are great.  I am very impressed. They have heaps of points of interest and they are very detailed. Hopefully our maps here will be like that soon.

I set a route and then set it to give me a simulation as if I was actually driving it (this was set for Hartford, Connecticut, in the USA) and it was very good.

Also, If you want any of the settings for the phone, go to this website and fill out the form and it will send you the information in a text message (you only have to click save or somthing like that to install the settings):

https://nokiags.wdsglobal.com/standard?siteLanguageId=118

and also

https://secure.mouse2mobile.com/clients/nokia/com/

These both work great and have settings for you to set up your NZ push to talk settings (although you will have to have an account with Vodafone first).

I love this phone and would recommend for anyone looking to buy this phone, that they do get it.
