Man, I am so over this issue!

This Blackberry Curve 8310 just eats the 750v for breakfast. Palm was no 2, but I think RIM might just take that slot next year.

dacahill: Hi all .. I notice that Palm has a WM6 update out for the Vodafone 750 [v ?] in Australia ..
http://www.palm.com/au/support/treo750/downloads/wm6update.html

Has anyone tried this on a NZ supplied Vodafone 750v .. ?

sick of waiting.... so i installed this version on two of the handsets i have here.  Both appear to be working without issues, and mine is still running the irish version without problems.

I wonder what is holding up the 'official' NZ image...?

You need to do a simswap on your phone -- go into a Vodafone store and ask for a "3G" simcard, they are the latest ones. Will cost you $20 for a simswap unless they give it to you for free.

If you read previous replies in this post this was a problem that happened only with Vodafone NZ and only in some devices - mine for example when I installed a new ROM. You solve this by running an updater - there's a link in this thread way behind with the download location on the Palm site.

All our palms are from about june 07 and they all have the "3g" 128k sim cards.  Maybe thats why i've not had any problems so far...

Re not receiving phone calls:

You can either use:

- Treo Update Recovery Tool with ANY simcard as it flashes an old wm5 version of the radio (1.12)

- 1.54 radio which supports ANY simcard and is hsdpa natively (you get the little [H] when using hsdpa)

- the common 1.4x & 1.52 radios with the official ROMs but get a 3G simcard

Ideally, you would have

- 3G latest simcard

- 1.54 latest radio

To check your radio version click Start, Settings, System, About, then go to Phone tab and look for Firmware Version.

I note that the firmware on mine is 1.12.0c.00 .. I assume that this is a result of using the recovery tool afrer installing the WM6 update [due to lack of incoming call ring] .. comments ?

I am using the HTC Touch Dual now. Gave my Palm Treo 750v to a friend who needed a replacement while the ensurance company gets his other mobile back.

General lessons:

1. Don't trust Vodafone is going to release an update for your mobile
2. Don't trust Palm is going to release an update for your mobile, even when announced.

My personal lesson?

I had the first US Robotics Palm. Then the 3COM Palm Pilot 5000, then the 3COM Palm Pilot Professional, the Palm III, the Palm V and then a Handspring Visor with its VisorPhone Springboard. That's when I moved to Windows Mobile. The HP was my entry into this world with an iPaq h3970, then the iPaq h4150 - the best and fastest Pocket PC I've ever seen. Since then I had only Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition and a couple of Windows Mobile Smartphones in for just measure.

And I just promised myself I won't be getting another Palm product any time soon and if possible at all not a Vodafone branded device.

interesting, would be good to hear your thoughts on the Touch Dual when you've had time to play with it, and if you feel like doing a review.
