Ebbi: Hi guys,

Just a few questions.
Will i still have the threaded messaging if I upgrade to WM6?
Also, the website states: "Smartphone must be connected to power adapter and the synchronisation cable throughout the update."

The thing is, my sync cable and charging cable both go in the same input, so how can I have them both in at the same time? Will I need to buy another cable?

Err, yes. Why would you think threaded SMS would go away...?

And as for the cable... what cable do you have?? The standard cables that comes with the device are all you need.

Yeah I don't think I have the sync cable.
I bought my treo off trade me thats why. Iv got the normal wall charger, and what looks like a USB charger. I'm guessing the sync cable is the one that has the wider end....compared to the charger which is a narrow end...if you know what i mean.

I need that cable. I searched on trademe but to no avail.

Do you know of any place I would be able to get my hands on one?

I think places like Dick Smith, Noel Leemings etc sell Palm accessories. Or you could ring Renaissance and ask fro your nearest retailer.

Thanks mate. I will try Dick Smith tomorrow. Hopefully they have it.
I think that is why I couldn't get my Palm to sync with my Vista machine...coz I don't have the right sync cable

RedJungle: Hooray, I'd given up on it. Interesting to see that its listed as only available until 31st October 2008. Why on earth would this be?

The NZ installer won't install over the top of the AU one (or any other version you may have previously installed). You'll need some fancy footwork to get it installed...

does this image do anything special that the AU or other images don't? (i.e. if mine aint broke do i 'fix' it?)

i was able to update my phone using the NZ updater file by following the instructions found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349508

It just involved updating the payloads.xml which is used to determine if your firmware version lies between the high and low range. Simple

I can't say that i remember things going faster or slower with WM6 but it is definately more stable. The following issues that I had with WM5 are gone for me in WM6:

* every now and then the treo would lose all sounds until a soft reset - sound control panel would error out with a message. this meant that I often missed hearing calls come in

* the sd card used to get 'ejected' regularly, even though it was still inserted. This meant problems using it for music, email, photos etc. WM6 fixes the problems with this

And here are a couple of reasons I think WM6 is better:

* the battery seems to last longer
* i get HSDPA speeds so internet/email is faster
* internet sharing means you can browse the internet on both the phone and a computer (via bluetooth PAN) while taking a call
* you can lock the keypad while windows media is playing music... so you can stick the phone in your pocket and use as an MP3 player
* new email search functionality is great, especially with the search server option if you have exchange 2007

note: i was going to say that MSN Messenger was on the WM6 rom, but it appears to have been removed from the VFNZ rom. It was definately on the Irish one! perhaps a reason to go back to that rom....

You could do it without the sync cable - you can use your sd card instead. Of course this requires that you can copy files directly from your PC to the sd card.

DISCLAIMER/NOTE: Don't use this method unless you're confident - if something goes wrong you probably wont get much help from vodafone or palm!!!

Well .. I ran the NZ WM6 install [by editing the xml file] and ended up having the do a reset and run the recovery tool .. Still stuck on 2.18. I'm am not at all sure that the NZ ROM ran over the Oz ROM [i.e. the recovery tool just plastered back the OZ ROM] .. Darn !

Ok so I need a Data Sync Cable for my Treo 750v. I've been looking everywhere for one but to no avail.
Recently someone on Trademe has listed a Data Sync cable which describes it as "USB data cable for Palm Treo 180, 270,300, 600"
Now my question is, if the data cable works with the Treo 600 series, would it work with my 750v? Do they use the same inputs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i grabbed the SKU, 3170WWZ, from the www.palm.com/nz site and did a google agains NZ and came up with the following site:

It sounds like it might be the same cable but i'm not sure. Its listed for $23 at the site above.

Has anyone noticed that the screen turns on by itself since doing this update? I think it may have something to do with being in dodgy coverage as it seems to happen less when in solid coverage, but still a strange thing to happen.

Other than that it seems like a good upgrade though. Getting HTML mail working is nice. It was getting a pain having the "click on this link if your mail program doesn't support html mail" message.
