I got given the BB10 Dev Alpha B from a BlackBerry rep yesterday. Not the final software/hardware but good enough to give it a test drive.

It takes about a 10 minute learning curve to understand there's no central point (home) and that everything lives in its own place and is controlled by gestures. Heaps of improvements could be made for the person who loves to tweak every setting but I'm sure they'll come in updates, or there will be an app for that.

Very fast and smooth and fluid operation. I don't have a micro SIM so cannot test the cellular features, but with Wifi you can try out just about everything else.

In summary, I'm quite impressed. Could do with a few tweaks to make it perfect, but that's what you get for a first OS and I am on a dev version which does have features cut out.

I can't wait to try and port over some Android apps as they claim it's really easy to do with their tools.

Also, the BlackBerry rep told me that they're in talks with all NZ telcos so if you're really wanting a BlackBerry you might have to bark up lots of telco trees.

The gestures concept is pretty similar to Meego and the Nokia N9 implementation. A curved screen would make it easier to go left/right though, exactly like Nokia did.

Read this article and has a lot of internal bits the same as the sammy S3, sammy note 2 and the iPhone 5 so spec wise right up there.

Thats a good roundup of the Z10 by .technobuffalo.

Great to see BB have come out with a strong platform and phones and gives us consumers a viable choice.

Certainly will give windows phone a run.

How about Z10 verses Samsung Note II time-shifting camera guess who wins???

I can get there from where ever I am.

I was given one by BlackBerry last week. Decent hardware, some of the UI is a bit off, but most of that's just me being picky. Lock screen is good but you should be able to swipe the notifications to go straight to them or some how have their info displayed while locked rather than just an icon. Can't seem to focus the camera on touch (if someone proves me wrong I'd be happy). Battery life is similar to Android devices. Speaking of Android, I'm glad this can run Android apps, side loaded Instagram and it works quite well, I had heard people saying Instagram was laggy when scrolling through photos but it seems comparable to most Android devices.

Out of the box firmware was yuck, had to update to Z10STL100-2/10.0.10.690 (10.0.10.90 official latest). Improved a lot in drain department.

Downloading .116 as we speak to see if any better...

to clear something up for some people.. there is a difference between OS version and Software Release...

the OS version for yours is the one showing 10.0.10.261
the Software Release is probably a lower number like 10.0.10.32

on the device I had off trade-me
Software Release is 10.0.9.348
OS Version is 10.0.9.2372

So, Z10STL100-2/10.0.10.690 is newer, plug your BlackBerry to link and update
