Well the i325's are in transit and the Okta Touch Dogs will be going back next week... 8 Handsets between 4 people is just hopeless... Admittedly a few items with missing calls/texts seem to be network related (either partially or fully) but the fundamental problem is the Touch just doesn't perform reliably as a basic phone plus locks the touch screen up and randomly shuts down and does other erratic behaviour. "Cluster Faults" are an ongoing known issue with the hardware and one wonders why they continue to sell the unit and issue handsets when they know a reasonable proportion will fail because of this...

Roll on the Fugly!!

You are going to like the Samsung i325. It's quite fast, good screen size for a smartphone, the keybard is really good. And it never locks up.

Hi Mauricio - yes I managed to get a demo unit for 1 day from TCL last week so had a quick play on it and gave the other Manager concerned a chance to trial too - I'm hoping you are right re: speed as a couple of people (incl. Tony?) obviously raised lag as a possible annoyance. Hope you are both right about the no lock ups - its been driving us mad. I also actually like the fact (from what I saw in my quick examination) it appears to always close the app when you exit too, unlike the the Touch Screen WM6 Pro (on the Touch) which minimises it instead and you have to constantly then close the app as a seperate function afterwards if you aren't planning to use it again shortly...

Hmm their htc x button autokill function must not be turned on, I guess one can turn it on if they have a registry editor installed

HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager
Change the value of "EnableAutoKill" to 1 - not sure what's cooked in as I haven't played with one.

You know, that'd be funny except everytime you log a fault (especially for missing calls or delayed notification) the first thing they do is ask you if you have done the extra step to close all your applications (rather than leaving them running in the background) to ensure you don't put too much load on the processor & memory! And even though as noted it supposedly frees memory on demand if needed...

I have not modified my i325 at all... its stock out of the box. Never done anything special to close a program. It just runs perfectly, no lag.

Don't suppose anyone knows if you can do this on the i325 Ace? I was playing with my new one last night and just noticed that it does do that same annoying thing of not actually closing programs and you have to manually do that seperately in a task manager function!

Apart from the Voice Command Monitor and possibly Active Sync (depending on your mail set-up) I can't imagine why you'd normally want programs left running constantly after you use them (I know some people may if constantly jumping from one to another actively doing things but most typical people I would imagine wouldn't...)?

a winmo will always be a winmo, may be you can go to here and grab a reg editor. do the above and power off then power on, not just soft reset.

Thanks Zocster - appreciate the info. Gave it a try but its giving an unsupported error when I try to run it so I guess it's a no go... I'll have a prowl around for other editors...

hmm interested knowing, what is that thing running? can u put up specs ... too lazy to look around for actual specs, a screen shot would be good too tell us all about your new toy?

My touch was superb until it started failing a couple of months ago, Now it won't connect via EVDO, Bluetooth has failed and it's just behaving really strangely.
The touch seems to have "data priority" set meaning voice calls go straight to voicemail while in an EVDO data sesson which was extremely annoying.

I'm hoping to cook up a ROM that is really slick and removes all the useless "touchflo" stuff and returns it to stock WM6.
Asides from that it was a fast device wih ample memory unlike most pdas.

Am now using a samsung i325 and it works well asides the same data-voice priority annoyance.

Put my vote in for the okta touch being a dog! It freezes up so often that I'm constantly checking it to make sure I'm not missing calls. I gave up using the alarm on it as it would be frozen the morning once or twice a week.

The only apps I've on it are Magic button & PCM Keyboard. It freezes whether they're on there or not & mine is not the special edition green version either, just bog standard black.

The phone would be great if I could actually rely on it!

Zocster - you talking hardware (processor/memory) & O/S specs, or the standard device ones at Samsung?

Actually I just noticed something - I have a 4GB Micro-SD Card and it doesn't seem to recognise the available memory on it - BUT on the site link above it only lists 2GB for the external card capacity - have they knee-capped it to only recognise cards up to 2GB...?

I also have a Okta touch and I think my expierience and yours means that Telecom should seriously consider rolling out the latest rom that the overseas operators have released.

My expierience is a little different, I am not running a stock standard rom, rather one of the cooked roms that uses the latest sprint rom as a base. The gives me WM 6.1 and GPS etc. It has meant a huge improvement in the performance of the phone. I can only think of it locking up once in the last few months, it is very responsive, reliable and I have no problems at all. Now while loading these cooked roms is a relativley easy process, it is not something that a business sohuld have to do to get a reliable handset.

Just my 2 cents worth, if Telecom released the latest rom then I think many of the current problems would be fixed (isnt that why they release the new software - can you imagine windows xp only being available in nz without the sevice packs, but these were avaiable overseas?)
