nunasdream: I had a play with one on the weekend. Really nice phone but a bit too large for my hands. :(

Something with the same specs but a smaller screen/size would be perfect for me.

I am using the HTC 8X. Personally I felt the same about the Lumia 920. Aside from all the "hype" and the awesome (low light) camera that the Nokia has there was not a lot that got me excited.

The 8X on the other hand is slim, sleek, easy to hold in the hand, sexy (subjective, I know), amazing screen and great battery life (used one for 10 days) I easily get 2 full days of work out of the phone (calls, texts, viber, ASB, maps etc..)

Glass: The US/Canada/UK get a free wireless charger along with the 920, and now the US are getting a free Purity Headset. And some retailers are doing special offers, like Walmart is giving a $70 gift card along with the 920.

It's making me very reluctant to get a 920 without some sort of special offer.

I'll be in the US next week. Anyone know if the AT&T 920 will work here?

If you can unlock it, yes. Mind you, AT&T customises a lot of their handsets, so you will end up with apps that are only for their subscribers, or strange configuration options...

Yes, I want an 8X but I want to buy one here cause my contract is nearly up with Vodafone. :D

If only someone would announce it here :(

I emailed Stephen Elop (Nokia CEO) on friday about the lack of colour availability for NZ. He promptly replied back and said someone will follow this up for me. I wonder if someone at Nokia contacted Telecom to carry more colours?

billgates: You would need to developer unlock your phone and side load apps like these.

Is this actually possible? and if so how do you do it?

For me, one of the huge drawbacks of the Microsoft and Apple phones is the level of control those companies wish to have over what you can and can't do with them.

Or should I just stick with Android?

Sign up for a developer account. Download the SDK which comes with the unlock phone tool. Run the tool and connect the phone to your PC. Sign in into the tool with your Microsoft account that you used to sign up to a developer account and it will unlock your phone to side load apps.

Thankx for that.

Do you know if a phone has to be unlocked each and every time you want to side load an app, or is it a one off action ?

Also if unlocked can a phone be be loaded from more than one computer eg from work and at home ?

One off action. It's unlocked for a full 1 year from the day you unlock it. AFAIK, you can unlock 3 different handsets using the same Microsoft account. You can also delete them from your account anytime if you wish to add another if you run out of 3 handsets quota limit.

Yes. So once the phone is unlocked, you don't always have to connect it with the same PC that you used to unlock it in the first place. As long as you have the SDK/tools on a different PC to push the XAP file to your unlocked phone, it will install it fine on it.

Any idea on the 820? That is actually my ideal phone (Expandable memory!) I have contacted the networks but nobody can tell me. :S

For people wondering about the 8X - it's under the user guides section on Vodafone's website. You can only find it through a web search of "Vodafone NZ HTC 8X" or something similar. http://www.vodafone.co.nz/help/device-support/user-guide/?wm=man:5725,page:pro,pro:151

It's also listed as coming soon on HTC's NZ website, along with the 8S that we already know about ;) http://www.htc.com/nz/smartphones/#all

The HTC page also lists all 4 colour choices.. hopefully a sign of a more complete launch than Nokia's.
