Have just installed the Portico update on my Lumia:

059Q852 RM-821 VAR HK CV WHITE

Does anyone know if there's a generic APAC or Aust/NZ firmware which is unbranded? I don't mind this one, but it still has some asian characters in places which I'd like to get rid of.

I just used the telecom branded update. The only branding I've noticed is the splash screen that shows briefly when rebooting. I don't really see this as a reason to switch...

I've got the CR-122 which I bought directly from Nokia NZ to use with my E7. It's a great unit and I think it should fit the 920. I highly recommend it. http://www.nokia.com/gb-en/support/product/nokia-universal-holder-cr-122/

It just fits the Lumia 920, you have to slide it from the sides, unlike the Lumia 800 that you could just "clip" from the front. It won't fit the Lumia 920 if it's in any case.

Thanks Mauricio, I remember discussing this with you a while ago, but couldn't remember the exact details. I wasn't sure if it fitted with the case or not.

hi,
does anybody know where the Nokia service centre is in NZ now that the one in Newmarket has been closed?

earlier today, my brand spanking 920 fell off my desk onto the tiled floor and the screen glass is smashed to pieces...... the phone still works but is a complete mess.

so much to driving over it in a car or bangning nails in with it.

either a new phone or a replacement.

PS some other gripes....

nokia drive kills the battery, after 2.5 hours of driving using it the battery is completely dead.
Noisy vibe motor. this is very annoying and creates a very loud vibrate even when on silent. i did have conffirmation from Nokia that this is a know problem and they had proposed to repair it for free if Telecom would not replace.

Sorry don't know where the service centre is now. Hopefully Brent R from Nokia can help there, though haven't seen him on here recently.

Gorilla glass won't scratch but sure doesn't like shock treatment like being dropped onto a hard surface.

So far as Nokia Drive goes I can only go by how it works on Symbian. What time out setting do you use for the screen? Having the screen on for long periods is a battery hog. There's a setting for the screen in Symbian and I would expect also for Windows Phone too. With the turn by turn directions there's not the need to have the screen on all the time, though I must admit it is handy in town to see what streets, intersections, round a bouts etc are coming up.

I don't usually use Drive for extended periods so cannot comment on the battery life though would expect much better than 2.5 hours. However if I were to plan to use it for a long period I would think about plugging in the car charger anyway.

I do use Sports Tracker a lot and get well over 2.5 hours more like 5 to 6 hours and would expect that to have a similar drain to Drive. The screen is not on during most of this use though.

Yep, Gorilla Glass is glass. It won't scratch easily but breaks if you drop it.

hi,

2.5 was with the charger in. however i was using wifi at the same time as i was using a mobile hotspot from work as the data is free.

it seems that the charger cant supply more power than the drain. the missus S3 wasnt much better.

First time posting here, got my L920 from Telecom before new years and I notice significant heating at the back of the device when using maps, Nokia Drive, Skype or games in general (after 3-5mins of use). I have searched the net and it seems there are a few people that say its normal even though I haven't had that issue on previous devices. Have any of you with devices from NZ noticed this by any chance? Thanks

I returned my first one because it was running like a pocket heatpump, Would heat up when been charged, When NOT in use in my pocket, and would get REALLY warm when in use.

I notice it most when it is using a heavy app, like nokia drive, or something graphical. It has a hot spot, but it doesn't seem to effect anything.

I have also had it since upgrading to Portico.

Like mentioned above when some bit of software crashes or gets caught in a endless loop it will heat up the phone significantly, and battery diminishes fast. After a reset it fixes the problem and is back to normal

I think it is buggy app software causing most of the strange heat up issues.
