billgates: ^ ah you have the region setting issue as well then. on your phone, go to settings then region and language.

set 'region format' to New Zealand English
set 'system locale' to United States
set 'browser and search language' to United States

you will then see a 'tap to reboot phone blah blah' line. select it to reboot the phone and then try the text to speech option over 3G.

heya, thanks for the reply, and no that didnt work.
i originally had it as the following:

set 'region format' to US English
set 'system locale' to United States
set 'browser and search language' to United States

and also changed it to the ones you listed. still no luck :S

is it working for you over 3g?

^ yep, everytime I recieve a message on facebook or windows live, I get the option to have the message read, ignore or call the person over 3G. I am using the XT network though.

oh that works fine for me. i mean speech-to-text when you try to compose a message. so when you receive a message and you "reply"

and you say your message.... mine goes into "thinking" mode until it times out. but if I am connected to wifi it only "thinks" for a few seconds and works without a problem.

ok thanks, ill still get my friend at vodafone to have a look. any ideas where he should have a look?
maybe a bad request over 3g?

ps. have you run into any bugs in mango? i am compiling a list of bugs to send off to WP7team in the coming weeks.

tell him to fix their network. the best way to tell in your case if it's vodafone or not is to try a XT sim in your phone and try the same again. in my case, XT not only loads data for the apps so much quicker than vodafone but I have yet to get disconnected from windows live and facebook chat.

lol will pass the message on for them. i got them to double check why i was being charged for facebook and twitter and they confirmed that the apn is not part of the deal. so i am sure they can trace the speech-to-text request and see if that is actually going through.

When you upgrade to mango beta do all of your apps and games etc stop working? So you are basically restricted to there standard apps until release and or mango re-writes of those apps?

I am really keen to update to the beta client using the "non-standard' method but was just curious about the apps even though most of the day to day use stuff is already built in.

All the apps and games still work fine. When you install the BETA, the upgrade retains the data including any settings and apps that you have installed. They all work on the mango build. In the marketlace there are no mango sdk available apps because microsoft is not accepting any submissions of those.

hey where are you located in the country bill? went into vodafone today to sign up and they they are lost as usual as to what I am saying. insiting on that it is a cell phone setting.
they also informed me that speech to text works fine on android devices... but because mango isnt officially out yet so they have no idea where to look. all i can say is they are usless lol

but im officially on vodafone with the 3G data/month.

tried 3G voice to text vice versa in both Auckland and Hamilton and no issues. best bet is to try an XT sim card in your phone and try the same method again to see if it works or not. If it does then you know who to blame :-)

I still don't see how you guys are using this speak to txt. I wish i could but it doesn't work well enough. This is what ive been saying into it just to try (no background noice). "hey would you like to go have a coffee and maybe a movie later" (no real reason, just a sentence i'd try) And these are some of the results.

"Hello would you like liverpool 3 me in maybe a movie you later"

"Of your go for a coffee or maybe mobile"

"They would you like to go for a coffee Miriam Wheeler it's"

Hahaha seriously it hasn't worked for me once. Im hoping it can be improved because this could be one of my favourite features. For now it's just funny
