Oh, yes, forgot about that one. Very handy...

Anyway, found a bug - serious one, but somehow I think it's old. Here it goes:

The phone works ok - WCDMA and HSDPA are enabled, the problem with the disappearing miniSD card is gone, and it is in general faster.

It even allows you to place calls! But as soon as the first incoming call comes in the phone will stop working for voice. The caller will hear a "This number is not in service" and the call is disconnected. I tried my SIM on another Pocket PC and it's fine. I tried another SIM on this Palm and got the same behaviour.

From this moment it won't place or receive voice calls, however data connections and SMS still work ok. Interactions with the network work fine, such as Call Forward, Call Barring, etc. I've tested all these.

You get the outgoing voice call capability if you soft reset the device, but on the next incoming calls the "voice" part of it dies again. The call is not even announced on the handset.

Now, why do I say this might be an old bug?

Back in January I was in the U.S. with this Treo 750v still running Windows Mobile 5.0 and it would show the same behaviour with a VFNZ SIM card while roaming on Cingular/AT&T. It would however work really well if I manually selected the correct band to use, instead of AUTO. Now, I tried changing the bands here and it still fails with this new ROM.

So I think the band selection on this ROM is faulty, however it's something similar to what I've seen on the Windows Mobile 5.0 Vodafone ROM when roaming overseas.

At that time I told Vodafone about this problem and they just dismissed it. Since I have a pre-production unit I am not sure if it could be a unit fault that showed back then and showing now.

If this is really a problem with this specific unit or a more generic problem with the model, we will probably never know, now that it might be approaching end of line after this upcoming update (unless Vodafone decides to send someone to the U.S. with a Treo 750v just to test roaming on their ROM, which I somehow doubt will happen).

Anyway, this is just a warning for you guys using the VFNZ 750v.

I have this issue now and have done for the entire time I've had the device, not all the time, but just some of the time.

I'll be txting and I get a voicemail notice come up. Or a missed call when the phone never rang, or I'll be on a call and the call waiting doesn't happen.

I think it's a 750v issue.

orcanz: Dumb newbie question (I love my Palm 750v) - what will be so great about WM6 (for the average user, and not the uber geek).

heres a few of the things that I know are new in wm6:

* Can read HTML emails
* New email search features
* New Internet Explorer - much better at rendering pages
* New Windows Live Messenger - i *hope* it comes on the Treo.....!
* Internet Sharing - can share the 3G internet connection on Treo with PC over bluetooth and still use the treo for phone/internet

oh, and some new visuals for the interface....

as far as i know the html email support requires exchange 2007 as well.. unless you are using active sync for email.. then the latest version of active sync will foward your email in html.

HTML email also works for POP mail too. For EAS you need Exchg7 - correct. Same goes for OutOfOffice, ServerSearch, and a few other features.

Reporting a bug on pre-release hardware, with a pirated, non-final ROM... interesting...

Oh and if the "band selection" was "faulty" you wouldn't get any services at all. out of interest what is selected in Start->Settings->Phone->Services->Band Selection. Don't forget that ATT use a different band to VFNZ, and the FW in the ROM is tailored to that. Also you do realise that US hardware has a different physical antenna configuration to EU hardware (what you get in NZ)? All these, plus many reasons more why using pirated US ROM's on NZ hardware is BAD (do I sound like a parrot?). And also why "bugs" reported like this are unlikely to be taken seriously. Show me a reproducible case on production hardware, with sanctioned software appropriate for that hardware and we can talk some more.

When I reported the bug on an official released ROM they didn't pay attention either.

I know they use a different band, believe me, I know about bands. There's an option to manually set the band used in New Zealand and I tried that.

Ahh, yes... yes it is.

Is it US or EU hardware? Do you know? What's the first 5 digits of the IMEI? Is it VF branded?

Well....its been a few days now and no anouncments from NZ either from Palm or VF

I find this very suckymoto.

And from the look of the Aussie post, the upgrade might be months away FOR GOODNESS SAKE.

What is a geek to do? We need some inside information.

Other than that:
What do ya think about the HTC kaiser with GPS , Gingo's I'd love GPS so that I could go geocaching with my Treo.

If I was to use my Treo...whats the best way to go?

Plus...Have a great weekend dudes, I'm off to do a marriage weekend away type thing...apparently it's the bomb!

Worst thing is... I am presenting next month at the Microsoft Partner Conference, about Windows Mobile 6 and why partner companies should develop mobile capabilities to bring to the market.

And guess what? I don't have a legitimate Windows Mobile 6 device, because... Well, I am not going there, but enough to say that companies still don't believe in help me help you.

Itis going to be hard to convince Microsoft partners to invest in this ecosystem, seeing that in New Zealand we don't have any Windows Mobile 6 device yet.

did you manage to get the 750v to work properly with the ATT ROM?
