Well really all I need is Auckland, but I was just curious about how time consuming it was (with a view to making my own, rather than asking you to do all the leg work. . . again).

I am trialling some software that promises to speed things up considerably, will see how it performs.

I wish we can use a direction feature since this map is an offline map type, thus you cannot get a direction.. am i right?

I am not sure what you mean by a direction feature and are you refering to MGMaps or SmartcomGPS?

I refer to MGMaps Peejayw. You can see where you are with MGMaps but you cannot search for a place you want to go because it will ask you to connect to the internet....

OK, yes that is right, only the data overhead for the map download is done away with by having the downloaded maps, other data has to be downloaded as required.

I installed mgmaps (v1.36.03), the N95 version and have followed all the instructions on this post to get it working with offline maps (the v1.3 maps that were posted here) but it's not working. It is not showing any maps at all - I just get the "map tiles not available, please zoom out or check your settings" images showing.

I have installed the N95 version
I installed from the JAD not the JAR
I have copied the maps to E:\MGMapsCache and flagged the folder as hidden.
I have changed the map settings to select
I have selected Stored Maps and Offline Mode
I set Storage Path set to E:\MGMapsCache (I have also tried E: which I saw in instructions on another website but that didnt work either)
I have checked the file
I have manually entered GPS coordinates for Auckland and tried zooming in and out but no map still.
I have used GPS radio and it finds my local position but no map still.
I have browsed the E:\MGMapsCache folder on the phone and I can see all the map tile images there and can open them with standard image viewer.

There is a debug log on the menu and if I check this it lists several "NullPointerException, DESC: Invalid image data" messages.

Anybody got any clues?

little bit confused....I have a N95 and the map for NZ is not full ofcourse as yet, so if I use mgmaps will it integrate together with the smart2go software on N95 and work as a proper GPS unit? so whenever i travel in my car, it will move along with me and also i can tell it to go a particular address in NZ and it will take me there like a NAVMAN unit does...?

Do whatever you want to do man.

Have you actually had a satellite lock yet on the phone?

MGMaps and Smart2go are two different pieces of software, no integration.
Mgmaps does not (currently) support navigation.

yes I can use Nokia Maps and get a GPS lock and I can also get a lock in MGMaps (the icon goes green).  I can't find any solutions at the MGMaps site.  If I enable yahoo maps access in MGMaps and switch to this map source the correct map does download ok.  I saw another post that said to make sure that Google Maps was selected in the "Unavailable" list of map providers in the app.  I have tried this but no joy either.

I was thinking it must be something to do with location/format of image files given the error that shows in the log.  It doesnt specify any file or path names for files it is trying to access.

I might try setting up a custom-provider for Google and see if I can access their maps via download ...

EDIT: I set up Google maps with a custom URL and the map downloaded and displayed correctly

EDIT: I solved the problem! Instead of specifying the Storage Path for the offline maps as "E:\MGMapsCache" (as all the instructions I have found say to do) I had to specify it as "Memory card/MGMapsCache".  I stumbled upon this when I used the browse function to select the Storage Path.  It listed options of "C:/", "Phone memory/", "E:/" and "Storage card/".  Since the MGMapsCache folder was hidden, I couldnt browse to this so I just keyed in the full path of "Memory card/MGMapsCache".  This doesnt seem to be documented anywhere but it works.

Peejayw, how do you connect SmartcomGPS with the internal GPS receiver? You just select "Connect" from the menu? I have the 1.55 version, but not sure what to do with it just yet!
