juha: The only other thing I can think of is that if you have different country settings, you connect to different MSN access servers, some of which may be slow to respond.

Interesting..... In the interests of science, I changed my country settings to UK, restarted the Jasjar and then successfully logged on to Pocket MSN, messenger and all other components. The trouble is, Im not English...

What does this prove? Is it a NZ server issue?

Even more interesting....
I changed my region back to NZ, restarted the device and the connection was maintained. When I chose the pocket MSN home icon, it told me that there was not a portal available for my location and woudl I like to choose one from the suggested list (Aust, Japan etc)

Come to think of it, when MSN wasn't working for me, I tried changing regions from NZ->US. Didn't do anything, so I changed back to NZ.

Wonder if that means the MSN client picks a different login server...? I thought Microsoft had all that info in DNS anyway, with SRV records.

Curious - what @email are people using to sign into Messanger. I use @hotmail and it never works but a Passport can be created with any valid email address.

My passport was created using my own email address (not @hotmail or @msn)

Still using my @msn.com address. It predates MSN migrating to the intarweb even... should auction it off on Trade Me as an antique :)

Well... there goes my theory about @email being the culprit.

I've been trying MSN using the K-JAM over GPRS and having no luck at all - the same errors about "service is unavilable, try later".

However I tried changing my regional settings to English-Uk as mentioned above and lo, now it does work for me! And my msn home is http://pocketpc.msn.co.uk/default.asp

I've now changed the regional settings back to English-NZ and after taking an age to sign in (including cancelling once after about a few minutes), Messenger still works! However I now have no msn home. I get "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again." when I try the msn home icon. Checking the page properties reveals that the page has no URL!?!

Seems like progress though!

Does Yahoo messenger work for anyone on Apache?
Doesn't for me.
Why not?

That sure is weird - I have changed my regional settings to Old Blighty and sure enough it logs in. When it passes the URL it must pick up the region from the device. So, for those of you who have it working consistantly are your units set to NZ for region?

I can log into MSN with NZ set as the region with the Apache.

With the Jasjar, the trick seems to be to switch APNs to web.vodafone.net.nz. After I've done that, I can sign in to MSN with NZ set as the region - with www.vodafone.net.nz, you have to have a different region, like US or UK (haven't tried them all).

In both cases, I changed the region to something else and then back to NZ, and soft-reset the devices.

Well, there's your workaround then. :)
