I find the TV out and also HDMI out really useful . They are really great ways to show off the photos and videos from a day out etc. I have a pico projector which allows me to to do presentations from my phone without the need to lug around a laptop. The old Symbian and Meego Nokias are very feature rich. That's technology, one step forwards two backwards sometimes.

I've been using Photobeamer for this. Cables are for yesteryear!

Photobeamer is pretty cool but you need the screen to have a web browser and an internet connection. Most of the time I need to display something the screen I'm using is a "dumb" screen so something like Photobeamer won't work.

I regularly run a Power Point presentation off my phone, can this be done via Photobeamer?

You'll just have to keep using old phones if you want to keep using old and dumb screens. Assuming that one day you'll be surrounded by smarter, connected screens, you could add Power Point to the feature request page for the Nokia Play To DLNA app: http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/play-to-for-wp8
Seems like an obviously good idea.

Seems like an obviously good idea.

The screens I'm using are certainly not old but not connected to the internet or a network. I've got Play To already. Can't see myself wanting to move to WP8 anytime soon.

personally I save my PPT machines to SkyDrive and use (free) PowerPoint Web App on a PC to present when I don't have my own laptop but there is another PC/Mac etc in the room

That is a good option, but also requires an internet connection, something I don't always have.

and they didn't tell you this?

if you flash an image on your phone it wipes everything off the phone

If you do an Over The Air update it doesn't do that

last time I flashed a new OS my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 it wiped every thing

Last time I did an Software Update on my iPhone through the Settings it did an upgrade

Same thing on Windows Phone

"Normal" users don't really go around flashing new build on their phone

Sorry you lost your stuff. If you signed in with a Microsoft Account your photos, videos, apps, Office stuff should have been saved to SkyDrive

you took the phone into Nokia Care and they flashed it and it wiped everything without telling you that would happen :(

or you flashed a new ROM yourself?
