And Vodafone UK gets it first... But this is ridiculous:

  • There is a limit of one download per customer. Please ensure you retain your copy of your download on your computer because you will not be able to obtain another copy once you start the download process.

  • Haven't they heard of Downloadus Interruptus? This things happen. Micro outages, bad line conditions, whatever...

Blame MS for that rubbish about 1 download per customer... they sprung that on us very late in the process. There's also other ridiculous stuff Palm have to do with respect this upgrade...

If you get stuck (broken download etc). Ring Tech Support - they will be able to help... we've at least been allowed to help out when it all goes to hell - thanks Bill.

Just to be clear: This was NOT Palm's doing.

    Hmmpf.

so are the downloads somehow "customized" to the serial # you enter, or does it just stop you from posting a serial number on a forum for everyone to use?

No, it's not customised in any way - the serials are simply validated and logged, and if a second attempt is made it will be blocked. It's all to do with the MS licensing restrictions... this is the thin edge of the wedge... the rest of the stuff Palm has to obey internally is plain medieval!!

Oh one other reason to keep the download... if you have to return an upgraded unit (under warranty), you will get back an un-upgraded device (ie WM5)... again, blame Bill. If you buy a new unit that ships with WM6 you get back WM6 however, so that's ok - confusing, but OK.

    Double-hmmpf.

the new windows live hotmail is much nicer to work with than the old hotmail, just like the new yahoo xtra mail client is better than the old webmail xtra client, but I wouldnt want to use either of those or gmail as my main mail client.

I use Outlook (and RPC over HTTPS), Windows Mobile Outlook ActiveSync and occaisonally OWA for the bulk of my email and prefer that combination by far

Hi guys, can we please keep this thread focussed on Windows Mobile 6 for Palm Treo 750v.
Welcome to create other threads for things like WLM / Email options.
Focussed threads are more valuable for people looking for specific info.
The offtopic forum is a great place to have a random chat.

Cheers - and thanks for everyones input so far, except that loser that young bradawan banned!

well to keep to topic, I had the occaision to use my treo's "Internet Sharing" over bluetooth today and it worked perfectly well, not to mention at HSDPA speeds.  While using an RDP session I took several phone calls, a text message and answered an email or two!

Another of the nice things I have noticed is that the SD Card doesnt 'disappear' like it often did in WM5 and you can lock the screen while Windows Media Player is running so you can listen to music with the treo in your pocket without accidentally dialling speeddials :) (it still dials emergency numbers if you are unlucky though :p)

A tip for those upgrading..... you will lose all your files when you upgrade - don't make the mistake I did and think that there was nothing important on the unit...  Perhaps a backup first would be wise. I completely forgot about all the photos and video clips i took while on holiday and i had forgotton to default the camera to saving on the storage card DOH!

Other apps that I have used that are working great are - Windows Live Messenger, Remote Desktop and Google Maps (downloaded and installed)

(whispers) Gosh, a couple of slightly OT comments and the thought police are on ya like a ton of bricks!

Regs: So you're running the UK WM6 ver and it's all good? Do you recommend it? Wonder why some say "can't receive calls" and others say, 'all is fine"?

No hint of the NZ VF ROM coming anytime soon. Its not like its exactly a massive exercise for VF NZ, wonder how many 750v's they sold? 500 max?

The work to delivery the download to one Treo 750v or five hundred is the same... But really it shouldn't be that hard...

Yep, i'm running with no problems whatsoever (apart from the lost photos - my own fault).  I think I got the "Vodafone Netherlands,Vodafone Ireland" download but i honestly can't remember :p

someone asked what kind of sim i had and I said it was a 128k one - not exactly sure of the significance there.... perhaps there are some issues with some sim cards.

Here is a funny story. Sorry long but funny.

Last night, I got home having gone to the movie "Breach" (which if you like spy drama's, I would go to) and seeing as my wife is in Chch for the night and I have nothing to do. So, I jump onto this BBS and read "regs" last post on this thread and decide to go hunt out the UK/Netherland/Ireland ROM from official VF site.

I get there, put in all the relevant numbers and hey presto! I'm d/Ling the updater at a lighting (xtra must have left the speed throttle back switch off) 565kbps. 2 mins later and faster than a grave robbers dog, I'm into the install process, goin for the new WM6 ROM and lickin my chops waiting for my fresh install.

That is until I knock the sync cable, which stops the update mid stream! Oh if only the cat had have been within arms reach, I could have had a go at swinging one for the first time.

Keeping my cool Tongue out , with the dreaded red, green, blue and white bars floating across my screen and NO HARD RESET available....sweat dripping down my forehead "A light goes on".

Weeks earlier I had D/L'd the AT&T ROM but never used it for two reasons 1) People were getting mixed results, not being able to receive calls 2) Just too busy. Anyway, I remembered that I had it on my MINI SD card ( Which was in my phone, but on the desk right then).

The way to install the AT&T ROM at that ( 2 weeks ago..was pirate was pirate way to do it) stage was from you SD card, using it as a bootloader!!!

So I stick the SD card back into my phone and hit the third button on the left and reset button at the same time and proceeded to install the AT&T ROM of the SD card!!!

Installed perfectly! Everything working, can send and receive calls..tickety bloody boo Laughing.

Anyways, it was now 1.30am so off to bed i went with a smile on my face...I'll grab the VF NZ one when it comes out.

Actually only decided to grab the Nertherland/Ireland one coz VF NZ is taking just too long to give us the update...it is plain and ordinary bad customer service.

    Have a great weekend!

    And now for Australia...

Palm has released this for Vodafone in Europe, and for Hutchison in Australia. I am pretty sure they will just say the Vodafone New Zealand version is being held by... Vodafone.
