Personally, I think it's because Vodafone NZ can't get WM6's current Radio ROMs to work properly with their network.

I'm guessing they have 3 main options:
1) Fix their network, so that the calls come through. Possibly a very very high cost for this, and for just one model phone? I doubt it.
2) Get Palm to fix the radio ROM so that it's compatible with NZ. More waiting, and would Palm do it for just one network?
3) Not support the WM6 ROM. Bad customer experience, and renegging a delivery promise that most NZ Treo 750v customers are aware of and were expecting from Vodafone before March this year.

I noticed a Three employee said the 1.52 ROM was working good for them in Aussie, but the 1.47 wasn't. It's possible therefore that option 2) is coming, and just requires more patience. ie. If Palm would do a new Radio ROM for Three (or just in general), then it's likely the 1.52 is not the last Radio ROM version to be released.

What I'm *most* concerned about is -- what about all these Treo users updating to WM6 overseas... then coming here roaming? Their phones won't be able to receive calls. That is not good.

Vodafone should be addressing this, as their Retail Stores are the ones on the frontline going to be talking to roaming customers with Treo's that can't receive calls. I understand this could be a very small number of customers, but it is a very poor experience if it does happen.

This is the worst upgrade plan ever launched. It was promised by Rennaissance on launch of the Treo 750v late last year. Then delayed til March this year. Every month, being pushed back and back. Now it's Sep 07, and still, no sign of a working ROM for NZ.

Vodafone, and every other telco should learn -- we [customers] don't care it's late. Only, we don't want to be lied to during the delay.
*Everyone* knows IT things take longer than planned. That's normal. Just be honest. If it's not working, say so. It is much easier to respect and deal with a delay because of an unplanned issue, than leaving the customer feeling left out and unserviced.

The AT&T 1.52 ROM is working as normal with my NZ VF 750v. Fired up first time, even detected the service provider on its own.

Sends, receives calls, SMS, email etc, all going well on WM6.

That's good to hear! I tried 1.52 and still couldn't receive calls.
Was quite disappointed actually!

Perhaps, if it was 80% of people having issues with 1.47, now it is 50%? We'll have to wait for more users to try and post results before knowing.

There doesnt seem to be any issues with the released vodafone WM6 ROM for ireland running on my VFNZ Treo as i've mentioned earlier in the thread. I didnt even have to change any settings - it all just worked.

Perhaps they are just staggering the releases so their support infrastructure doesnt fall to bits.....

You obviously havent heard of a few other releases... Longhorn, Vista, Windows Server 2008....

Also, who was the release promised to? AFAIK Renaissance dont sell/market to end users and I never saw any mention of WM6 in the advertising of the Treo here.... the only information I could get was off blog/forum sites on the net and a single press release from Palm.

This was promised by Vodafone, but never by Renaissance. They only market the non-branded Palm devices, which currently only includes the Treo 680. They never had anything to do with Treo 750v or Treo 700wx.

No, Renaissance were involved in the NZ launch and they provided training courses for business reps and retail staff selling these.

Initially, Renaissance were going to be a supplier or involved in the logistics but this is now entirely Vodafone and Brightpoint.

Well there is always the Treo 500 with WinMo 6 :-P

I know it doesn't really compete with the 750V, but I assume it will be cheap?

Hmm...my update is that I've tried both the AT&T ROM and the Aussie ROM and they both work marvellously

. Currently running the Aussie one.

Hi everyone.

I need some help with my Treo 750V. Tonight I upgraded it to the UK/Ireland version of the ROM V2.18. Most things are working except the deivce will not receive calls. I don't want to change to the AT&T ROM and would prefer to roll back to WM 5 if possible and wait until NZ Vodafone releases the correct ROM.

Any ideas on how to bring back WM 5 or solve the calling issue?

Interesting that some phones have issues and others don't with these different ROM's.

On another note: WHERE IS THE NZ ROM

It is weird that some phones are fine with the new ROMs and others aren't.

I'm not sure of the exact provenance of my phone, a 750v which I bought through Trade Me. Apparently it was one of the first sold in New Zealand. I went to the Palm UK site, followed the instructions exactly and downloaded the ROM for my phone - the Irish one if I remember correctly - as my software version was "-VFE". It works fine. (A few complaints about the email client - the Delete button replaces the New button which is a pain and I haven't seen a good explanation for it either - but it's great.)

Are there Treos with different "base" software versions being sold by Vodafone in NZ? Perhaps this is what's causing the problems. (Is there even such thing as an NZ ROM?)

We (the MVPs) talked about this to Microsoft and it comes down to usage. Most use the mobile device to either reply to or delete e-mails while on the go, synchronising to their Outlook or Exchange Servers, ensuring a "clean" mailbox when back in front of their PCs.

Replacing the NEW with the DELETE option makes sense because DELETE was used many times more than NEW, and the new layout requires one less click to complete the action.
