Reading this morning DomPost, buried in an article entitled "IPhone therefore I am" (fairly weak heading?!) on page C1 is a sentence as follows:

"Telecom, which chose not to discuss its views on the smart-phone market, sells a range of smart phones and will launch a Windows-based Okta handset on Thursday".

I couldn't find any mention of this in recent articles in any of the forums.  Anyone "in the know" have any (non-confidentiality breaking, of course) comments?

It is widely known that more handsets are due by years end, and those in the know have seen the model numbers, but would not be at liberty to say really.

Watch this space! The Agent is just the first of a number of different styles of phone for Telecom/Okta.

There is enough info about the Okta Agent on the web.  The Okta Agent is even on Telecoms site.

Or look here,
www.oktamobile.com

I understand there is going to be a whole range of other Okta branded handsets before year end as well.

Yep - I know about the Agent, skyplonk.  I am in the process of looking at moving up from the Apache to the Titan so am interested more in the PDA phone devices rather than the smartphones, although the margins can be a bit blurred between the two in terms of functionality.  Hence I am interested in what Tony had alluded to - the possibility of a number of new telecom phones (both Okta and others I guess, including the HTC Touch CDMA version) and their timing.  As always, the question is, how long does one hold off waiting based on the promise of things to come!!?

There will always be something new around the corner.

My advice is only hold off if nothing current actually suits you. Simply waiting for the newer model, or better functions is pretty pointless, as if you wait for the next model, then why not wait for the one after that, then if waited for that, the next one is probably worth waiting for too....

And so on...

So bump off the old one, and grab what looks good now!

Im loving my Titan (that is away for repair cause it wont charge)...

The mainstream media has been really quiet about Okta Mobile - I've posted about the Okta Agent on the day it was released and about Okta Mobile back then.

I think they are waiting for the official launch, which is this Thursday - I will be in Auckland to attend this event.

As for other models coming, wait until then to find out more. The Okta Agent is the first, and it's a Windows Mobile-based device, so the Dominion Post could be talking about this one, or about something else ;-)

By the way, I got an Okta Agent today so a review will be coming next week, hopefully by the time Okta Mobile launches.

I'd followed the earlier posts on the Okta brand on Geekzone.  Thanks for the update about Thursday Mauricio - I hadn't realised this was the official launch - paerhaps you will be posting updates from that event "on the fly"?!  Hopefully some announcements about impending releases (as per your ";-)" above!)

FWIW I posted some additional hands on experience comments (after 5 days use) on Mauricio's Review (assuming he approves them).
Cool

There's no moderation/approval for comments in articles - and I don't see your comments so it doesn't look like there were posted?

I see the new Okta phones (Touch and Boss, due for release next Thurs 8th) are now back up on the Okta website with specs etc.  Go have a look if you're interested in a CDMA alternative to the Titan

http://www.oktamobile.com/

Also some discussions in this thread.

Note also that Mauricio is at the Okta launch today and will be providing an update on any additional info coming out of that event I believe.
