Windows 10 mobile is meant to be released this month isn't it? Does anyone have any idea as to when, if so?

Not sure on exact date but you could enroll yourself in the Preview program and install the RTM + newest update straight away and be always up to date.

That's presuming the OP is happy with dealing with the prospect of things not always working as expected. The preview programme as good as it is, is really only for those who are happy at the bleeding edge.

I see Here Maps has been dropped from the latest build of W10 Mobile.  That alone would be enough for me not to upgrade from Windows 8.

Here Drive is still there on Windows 10 mobile? To be honest, I much prefer the speed and layout of the built in 'Maps' app in Windows 10 mobile over Here Drive. It also offers offline maps support.

OK, it seems it was "disabled" then "re-enabled" on another build. Apparently the Here app in the store is/was hidden, that and the fact of the disabling lead some to think Here was no longer in W10 mobile.

Here Drive does offline maps as well.

I did install the Insider app on the phone awhile ago, but then knowing my luck, I would end up bricking it... so I decided not to install the preview.

Current Windows 10 Mobile release to Insiders is the same OS version as the Windows 10 desktop.

How cools is that?

Microsoft released a Recovery tool few months ago in case something goes wrong with your phone. You essentially cannot brick Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobiles any more. It's re-loads the OS for you.

From my current experience on the insider program, I want it to bake just a bit more still. 10586 was OK, 10586.29 is a bit better. I am still getting random app crashes, camera sometimes refuses to load or crashes, sometimes struck with resuming screens and the lockscreen still takes a while to appear after running for a few days. There are still inconsistent styles in the settings menu too. Some of the extras are in the new Windows 10 style and others like the EQ and the Display settings are still in 8/8.1 style. Maybe my 640XL will get some updated firmware with the official release that will help some of it as well.

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and install the slow ring version. Everything seems to be working OK, apart from rather fast battery drain. But I guess that can be expected in a preview version.

The built-in maps app does voice nav and offline maps.  Original release wasn't great, but I've found it works beautifully now.  I think that Here maps only remains if you upgrade - so if they bring out a W10 flasher tool it might disappear.

In the past the NZ software upgrades for WP follows pretty quickly on the heels of the Australian release - perhaps Vodafone NZ 'outsources' their testing? The Vodafone Aus community page updates every Fri and now has multiple phones undergoing WP10 testing so don't imagine it will be long

Still wondering if the older but early flagship phones like the HTC 8X and Samsung Ativ S will even get this update....
