Hey.... I just picked up a new motorola v3 and I want to connect my ipaq hx2410 to the internet through it via bluetooth.

My provider is Rogers, and i picked up a cell internet plan....

Anyhow, I can surf the net etc on the cell phone fine via GPRS, but I can't see to get to the net via my ipaq.

I've tried creating a connection on the ipaq:

using the number *99#, username wapuser1, pwd wap, and entered +cgdcont=1,"IP","internet.com" in the 'extra dial-string modem commands'

My ipaq will establish a connection with my v3, but then the connection will fail.

I've also tried using the BT Phone Manager to set up a connection:

-I selected the GPRS network
- for the APN i entered +cgdcont=1,"IP","internet.com"
- Username wapuser1
- pwd wap
- and left the defaults for the rest, ie) dynamic ip etc.
- for the communication device I have it as generic/generic/bluetooth dailup modem, b/c my v3 phone is not in the list.
- for the network operator, I have Rogers wierless(ca)

When I kick this off, it will open a port... I accept the connection on the v3, then as it is loading the GPRS settings, it just fails, and goes back to the BT Phone Manager screen with a status of disconnected.

Please help!

Thanks

Try adding Z; to the begining of the Init String - this is a reset command and most Motorola phones need this these days.

Also, check with your operator to see if your account is correctly configured to use GPRS.

Hey... thanks... but no luck with that.

I was fooling around and put the connect string in front of the *99# and my phone came up, please wait.. then said 'not available'... that was the most 'exciting' thing I seen since I started playing around with this.

I'll try to get a hold of rogers, to verify my account, but I can surf the web on my phone over gprs, so .... it seems like it's active.

any other thoughts?

The Z; should be entered on the appropriate Init String field, in the [Advanced] settings of your connection. You should not change the dial number from *99# (or *99***[x]# where [x] is the configuration id on your phone).

Hey...

I did try the Z; in front of the init string, but that didn't work either. I'm waiting to hear back from motorola to see if there are any drivers that I might require to use this phone as a modem....

Rogers sent me a doc on how to set up bluetooth access etc... with the init strings, user id's passwords... but the only thing that it talks about that am unsure about is.. getting drivers from motorola.

I'm waiting to hear back from motorola to see if there are any drivers that I might require to use this phone as a modem.... I'll let keep you posted.

Hey...

No luck. They ended up just referring me to BVRP.com

Not sure what else I can tell you guys...

Unless I'm supposed to have an 'data' package on my phone instead of an 'internet' package?

I know the phone is trying to get out, b/c I get interference on my monitor... (ya... it's common wit motorola's) Here's what I see:

Select my 'rogers' connection

Motorola Phone: Dial-up
Connection Established

Connecting: rogers
Dialing From: Cell
Using: Bluetooth dialup modem
Dialing: *99#

-Then-

Cannot Connect
Dialed: *99#
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings

Bluetooth Manager: The connection cailed and could not be reestablished

One thing that strikes me as odd is, the motorola doesn't show up as a 'phone' when trying to pair the device... I have to select "All Devices" in order to see it.

Any other thoughts?

Please see the bluetooth forum. I have added instructions on how to perform this task there.

The instructions posted are for dialup to ISP, but this thread is about GPRS.
