Hi

I'm new to this...can someone please tell me how to set this up - step by step? I tried following the guides on this site without much success. I'm using Windows XP on my system and I just bought a Belkin Bluetooth USB adapter. Any guidance will be appreciated. Thanks

Merv

As for the desktop/laptop, most of our guides have the screenshots for the Windows 2000 based system, but the instructions will be very similar for the Windows XP OS.

Let me know what PDA you have and I can try pointing to a guide that will help you better...

I am using iPAQ 3970 with a 2002 operating system and I just bought a Belkin Bluetooth adapter for my laptop.
Any help for me to synchronise my data and also using it for Internet will be appreciated. Thanks

You can look this one for Activesync and this guide for internet sharing.

I would start with ActiveSync first.

I tried these two links prior to posting without much success. I will give it another go and see how it goes.
Thanks

The main problem connecting via Bluetooth was the number of services provided by your BT dongle. Reduce the number of services up to 7. Set your BT serial port to COM4 and in ActiveSync set the communication port to COM4. Start ActiveSync from BT tray on your iPaq. It should work.

As far as I can see...there are 7 services by default. Both my laptop and PDA are set to COM 4 but I'm still not able to synchonise it. I can see file on the PDA though which is weird to me at the moment.

ml_newbiew, right-click the Bluetooth icon in the System Tray, click Advanced Configuration and then change to the Local Services tab. You can only have a maximum of seven services there, because the Bluetooth software on the original H3970 only supports seven of these. If you have more than this, make sure you disable a few of them.

Regarding the COM port. It's important that you note what's the COM port assigned in the Local Services tab (as per previous paragraph). You have to use this COM port on your ActiveSync configuration on your computer. There's nothing to be changed on the Pocket PC for ActiveSync over Bluetooth. To configure right-click the ActiveSync icon in the System Tray, select Connection Settings and then choose the correct settings. The following is an example of the dialog you should see (use your own setting there):

Once you have done that, start the ActiveSync from your Bluetooth Manager on your Pocket PC. Have a look on this page for detailed instructions. Don't overlook anything!

Hi you say, that you can see files on the PDA from your laptop/desktop but you are not able to synchronize your PDA with it. During first connection ActiveSync prompts you to enter if you are an guest or standard user. If you have choosed guest then you will not be able to synchronize files and other things. I do not know how to switch from guest mode to the standard one.

It doesn't give me an option as to whether I should select as guest or standard user. It acknowledges that there's a connection and asks me either to Accept or Cancel. Once I have clicked accept, it will say trying to connect....and that's it. It will stay "Trying to connect..." and then it loses connection.

When you try to connect the first time, a notification bubble may show up on your computer, asking for authorisation. You have to be close to it to be able to click and authorise. Do you see this thing?

Once you authorise, there's a checkbox to always accept the connection.

What you're describing sounds like a timeout... Could this be it?

If you are running Windows XP SP2, change the bluetooth driver for your belkin device to the uncertified belkin driver and all should be well. There is a document at Belkin's website that describes what to do:
http://www.belkin.com/support/download/downloaddetails.asp?file_id=1899

This should enable your ActiveSync

I followed the instructions and a connection is established however I get an error message:

'Microsoft Active Sync cannot recognize this device for one of the following 2 reasons

* the device was inproperly connected ......

* the device is not a smartphone or a pocket pc ......'

Have you come across this message before and any idea how to resolve it?

I am using Active Sync 3.7.1 and a Belkin F8T001 ver 2 bluetooth usb adapter

Do you have the Bluetooth adapter connected directly to your PC, or to a USB HUB? Also, make sure the ActiveSync is really expecting the connection on the correct port.

The usb adapter is directly connected to the usb port on the computer. In advanced options activesync is reported as com 4 and in connected settings in activesync I have selected com 4.

When I pair the devices and enable activesync on the ipaq it recognizes and tries to establish a connection. On the computer a balloon pops-up to say that the activesync connection is established. In MSFT Activesync the green wheel starts turning, and after a while I get the error message
