keepitwarm: Oh and to answer the question about gaming performance I haven't noticed any performance dips or anything.while running the app, can't say I've streamed to smart glass for that long. Ill play with it more at the weekend and let you know.

Do you know how much bandwidth smartglass streaming takes?  (I'm thinking cellphone+vpn+xb1 = remote TV playback)

I tried this on my iPhone,, reset the stats on my phone, turned on the vpn, it just buffered and played 1 second and buffered 1 second of play again, and then just failed, i don't think my upload could cope, you might have better luck if you have fibre or even vdsl. it recorded 35 mb for the all of about 2 seconds of nothing really, and then couldn't get it to work again. So gave up.

To answer the other guys question it will work on any usb slot.

I use the plex app for all my mkv needs.

Hi

My son bought a Xbox one off trademe without a controller so he has borrowed a controller from his mate

However the controller disconnects from the xbox several times per session.

Any ideas how to identify the problem source, i.e. is it the controller or the Xbox console?

Regards

So - plugged in a USB drive with MKVs on it, and it can see & play them without a problem, but it won't see the MKVs on my network share (located on my PC).  Don't know much about DLNA - if that is relevant?  Any tips appreciated.

Well you need a new controller anyways. Buy one and if the new one has issues too, then it's the xbox.

PhotogenixNZ: it won't see the MKVs on my network share .
You mean like right click on folder -> Properties -> Sharing  network share?   Because that makes a SMB share, not a DLNA share.

There is a DLNA server built into windows (not sure how good it is) but you may be better off with a 3rd party one.

Warning: reality may differ from above post
