Received mine yesterday, spent more time gaming in the past 2 days than I have all year, the ability to play anywhere changes the game.

Although I do have issues with downloads being rather slow using the NZ region.

Lot of Steam Deck scams on TM last few days. All similar types of listings - no pickups, bank deposit only, very new accounts, similar $200-300 buy nows. TM has taken a few down already, but they keep multiplying like heads of a hydra.

JaBZ:

Hey so my reservation has come up for purchase of a 512GB Steamdeck,  thing is I already acquired a 64Gb one 5 months ago via a cousin in Europe.  I was going to sell this and purchase my reservation when it came up, however since then I already have it setup the way I want and have installed a 512 SSD etc..

so I guess I want to provide this reservation to someone who maybe keen here to get it,  although you will have to do it all yourself, i.e. purchase, and send to a US address or forwarder, deal with customs etc.

If you are keen let me know we can work it out via PM.  Reservation expires on 11 Aug 12:10pm some US timezone..

Bugger missed this, though I probably would have paid extra just to have it in hand here in NZ already

Has anyone tried in NZ using the stores like Epic Games, Ubisoft, Microsoft store? I want to try and get into portable gaming. Has anyone tried this and compared to using Playstion Remote Play, is it a similar experience in terms of lag etc?

Local warranty makes it worth grabbing IMO

They make it sound like the power plug and cable are bonus extras, when really they just have to provide a NZ plug since it comes with a US one.

I'm glad there is an option to buy a steam deck locally with a local warranty. I just wish there was some clearer indication on when there was going to be an official steam deck release for Australia/NZ - It's a little annoying considering if to buy when you don't know if NZ sales might open up the week after you buy a more expensive one from another source.

I personally wouldn't expect to see them on sale here officially. Maybe Steam Deck 2 or 3. That's just my opinion though.

I imagine Steam Deck will be sold officially here one day, but through a retailer (perhaps EB Games?) not through their own Steam website. It took them a bit over two years to do that with their VR headset though, then they started selling it here and in Australia through EB Games.

Yeah can't see it personally, our market is just too small when they can pump them out for NA, Asia and Europe instead.

I agree that the NZ market is too small to get much focus. But I thought Australia is big enough to get somebody officially handling sales as a partner - And hopefully the retailer (such as EB games) handling it there would also operate in NZ and hence would cover NZ as well.

Generally speaking if stuff isn't launched here at the start (sometimes happens as we are a good small test market), then it's not coming here for a long long time.

Pretty impressed that MightyApe has them, albiet at a $500ish markup (based on conversion at the time of writing between this and RRP on the Steam Store).

Saw a pretty nice comparison video between the 64GB and the 512GB that has me thinking that the 64GB won't actually be so bad....

Currently trying to rationalize myself out of buying one, but it's a struggle - There's a long list of games that I'd genuinely enjoy with this device, and at the price of most modern phones.... Someone talk me out of it, please. 😅😂
