shrub: I got mine at DSE for 75 its the limited edition one but it shows as standard on origin the help guys say take it up with the retailer....

The EA helpdesk is a bit of a hit and miss, some of them give out keys and others do not. Most irritating, especially if you have been waiting to chat to them for over an hour.

I'm glad Chen from Playtech sorted me out with a key and I hope DSE would hopefully go as far to sort you out one too.

He just provided me with a new key. I have been unsuccessfully trying to install it from disk though... as the key provided automatically downloads from Origin...

Theres a way around that, do some googling, you can use the files you already have instead of redownloading it.

Hope to get a similar outcome out of Mighty Ape

Are you sure it's actually downloading it? When I installed mine it said Origin was downloading too, but in fact it was installing. Seems they don't know the word for Installing in Sweden!

Yeah mate, it was actually downloading as opposed to installing from disk.

I'll download it later tonight... just as well we're with slingshot's all you can eat plan (free data between 2-8am).

Just a quick note to others who may still have the issue.

If the copy + paste trick doesn't work for you, you WILL have to contact EA support to remove the Standard Edition from your Origin Account otherwise your new LE key will automatically start downloading as opposed to installing from disk.

You WILL also have to amend your host file so it doesn't go through ACTIVATION.

Do you have the same problem as I have with the game not showing up as "Limited Edition" within the Origin Beta startup?

There has been a few comments about this in the GP forums.

I have some major problems with my version from playtech.

Playtech sent me a new LE code which I 'redeemed' correctly.

Then in Origin it shows 3 versions, BF3 Standard Edition (SE), BF3 Beta, BF3 Limited Edition (LE). I checked the 'show game details' on the LE version, and it seemed to be good.

But, I could not install LE while SE was also in the origin list (it would try to install SE again), so I contacted Origin Live chat. The Origin person, said he removed BF3 SE / BF3 Beta from my account.

I noticed that the BF3 LE license code was gone, and the BF3 Beta was still there.

Next, I was able to install BF3 LE OK from the Disc. But, when I pushed 'play' on the LE version, I'd get 'not activated'

So, contacted Origin livechat again, explained the issue, and they said it was the retailers problem and cancelled the chat session.

So, status is I have no playable SE version or LE version.

Phoned Playtech and explained the situation and they graciously provided me with another code (thanks playtech). Playtech did say that this is the end of their responsibility in this and that my problem is with origin from now.

But, when I try to activate the new unused code against my account, I get the same error with the new code.

I contacted origin again, and they said that I should reinstall origin/BF3, but that has not worked either.

Origin are saying that the retailer is responsible, the retailer are saying that origin is responsible.

So, as now, I've paid $80 for a game for which I have 2 valid LE keys, but cannot activate either of them on my account.

The key does work.... sort of.

A)Open a session of NOTEPAD and run with Admin Rights

B)Open Windows Explorer and direct your self to C:Windows/System32/drivers/etc

C)right click on "host" and open file with NOTEPAD

D)add the following to the bottom of the file: 127.0.0.1 proxy.novafusion.ea.com

E)SAVE your edited host file.

F)Launch Origin and you should be good to go

what a joke! i finally heard back from Mighty Ape (3 days after playtech informed there customers). here is the email:

"
Hi Jason,

Thank you for your patience in waiting for this issue to be resolved. After much back and forth with EA about this, they have advised that this is the best course of action to get your Limited Edition key sorted.

* Contact EA Support (nzsupport@ea.com) and provide them with a photograph of the CD key and Limited Edition disc. Easy way to obtain that picture is to just open the case, and have the CD key facing outwards. You can then get both the key and disc in the same picture.

* Once you have emailed through your photo, EA Support will respond back with a Limited Edition key and instructions as to how to redeem this and uninstall your standard edition.

If you have any further issues during the redemption process, please contact EA Support again with your issue and they will be able to look into it further.

Further to that, if have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, and once again thank you for your patience with this issue :)

Just persevere it a little longer and keep playing your Standard Edition, flick an email to ea support NZ, and with any luck they will reply back once the backlog clears. I think we're like 3-4 weeks away from the Karkand DLC release day anyway so there's still time and you're not really missing out on anything.

Yep, my next GPU upgrade will be @ Playtech for sure... my lil GTX460 is struggling a bit at times with BF3 :)

To be fair EA do not seem to have handled this very well either. They are the ones telling retailers to send the customer to them as in this case but then when the customer does call them the support people are telling the customers to go to the retailer! They do not seem to have worked out a good process for resolving the issue and then making sure there staff dealing with the retailers AND the customers know it.
