Any word on the series X/S encoder performance for game streaming?  I'm presuming it should be pretty good given that xcloud is using the X hardware... I don't always have access to the TV and currently use my gaming-pc via parsec/rainway and the xbox one via the console companion... the pc > Parsec > PC is good quality but the xbox one > PC is variable and you can see the loss compared to the TV...

A lot of details from the horses mouth here. Essentially confirming ours a series X with a lower spec gpu and less ram (presumably mainly vram). Grass 5 is being offered to run at 120fps on both consoles which is nice.

On engadget review today, Microsoft is looking at expansion slot for hdd upgrade..

"The main downgrade on the tiny new console is the SSD. The Series S has just 512GB of storage, compared with 1TB for the Series X (and 825GB for the PlayStation 5). The Series X will have a custom port that allows for storage expansions and it’s possible the Series S will have this functionality as well, though Microsoft has not confirmed that just yet.”

If so about time, PS been doing this for years

MS has confirmed that the Series S will have the same expansion slot as the Series X.

Here's some info on the card:

?

There are 2 consoles MS is releasing. Series X and Series S. Series S has lowers specs compared to X. Both X and S are being released around the world with exactly same specs as advertised in each of the launch markets so no one is gimped hardware compared to another country.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Haha. all those Aussies on twitter complaining about the price.

I was expecting Series X to cost more like $900, so $750 is sweet considering all the tech crammed inside. Hopefully PS5 will be similar price.

I've never owned a Playstation or xbox before, and was considering buying a PS5 this time. But if there is a big price difference then I might pass or wait it out a while.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the NZ price of the Series X. Not that i will be buying one as i'm firmly in the PS5 camp but I can't see the PS5 being launched at much more than $799 now that the Series X price has been set. I could accept a PS5 price at $849 but anything above that would be suicide for Sony in this market I feel.

Maybe this could be the generation to sway me back to XBox if the price from Sony isn't right?

Worry, My post was full of typos, I meant to say it's (meaning series s) a series X with a gimped GPU. So should have all the bells and whistles the series X has but at 1080p instead of 4k. Presumably gears 5 will be at those resolutions but hitting 120hz on both consoles.

I'll never fully understand other conversions here, like you o expected $900 as that converts from overseas prices, maybe more when you factor in the mark up we tend to pay. As I said before the UK will be paying effectively $100 more than us for the series X as it's £450, but they are getting the series s for under$500. The conversion just seems out to me, but here at least it makes an upgrade from the s to an xa a seriously compelling argument

Also interested to see what spark sell it for under the monthly payment plan that is all access. I think it's about$40 a month for the series X and game pass ultimate.

The Series X being only $250 more makes the Series S a pretty poor value proposition. Needs to have at least $200 between them, if not more (considering a $200 USD price gap) that said, the Series X price is very competitive so that's nice. I was planning on upgrading the GPU on my PC from a GTX 1060 to one of the newer RTX 3070 or one of the new AMD RDNA2 cards, but they cost about the same or more than an entire Series X console...

Edited to correct the price difference

The series X pricing for NZ looks good enough. Can't wait to preorder. 😬

Assassin's Creed Valhalla will hopefully look better than current gen and maybe have 1sec loading times. 🤞

All access pricing is also out there.

https://www.xbox.com/en-NZ/xbox-all-access

Xbox one s and game pass - $32 a month
Series s and game pass - $39 a month
Series X and game pass -$52 a month

All are 24 month contracts. Considering game pass is $20 a month the effective console prices over the 2 years are:

One s - $768 overall, $288 after GP
Series s - $936 overall, $456 after GP
Series X - $1248 overall, $768 after gp

I know that Gamepass can be had cheaper to get a better deal but of you were paying full price for gamepass those console prices look quite appealing. Not sure why they link to Telstra on the page but their tweet seems to suggest NZ pricing starts at $39 as per the website.

$250 more, no? $799 vs $549

Still, I don't quite get why XBSS is 40% cheaper than XBSX in the US, but only 31% cheaper in NZ. I get that they wanted to go for the magical $XX9 price point, and I understand that $449 may have been way too cheap (even though it's 43% cheaper than XBSX, so still comparable to the US difference).

But even a $499 price point would've only made it 37% cheaper than XBSX.

So my initial post was on the mark with series S but series X is priced lower for whatever reason.

I’m guessing they’re wanting to compete with ps5 pricing on that one, but with the series S there isn’t really anything else at that price point (maybe the switch?).

My take is that when people go out to buy a console and ask for the cheapest one (bar old gen), they’ll see series S compared to all the others and go with it. Essentially banking on the majority going with the cheapest option, so can’t make it too cheap (pricing to what the market can bear etc.)

I'm guessing/expecting the NZD cost of the Xbox Series X to be between $849 & $899.

I'm basing this on the High end Lego set that sells both here and in the USA.

That set is the Liebherr.

At the U.S. Lego shop, it's listed for $449

At the NZ Lego shop, it's listed for $799

As I say, this is just an uneducated guess

It's confirmed as $799 here, the maths doesn't add up between regions but who cares we are getting a deal for once 😂 I know in the us that price tag equates to $530 USD but they also have to add gst whereas our price is what we will be paying. I presume they are basing regional marketing based on local markets as nothing seems to be scaling. I still think $549 is a tiny bit high, it's just not a big gap between the two to push the s that hard here and means the s is bang on the switches price. If people want cheapest gaming the switch now competes, even at $529 RRP they would have just snuck in under Nintendo to bookend the market with top performance and lowest price.
