Agreed. Power is only good if it is harnessed well.

I chose the original Xbox over the PS2 due to better specs on paper, and the latter firmly won that round. I then originally chose the PS3 over the 360 (although I now have both) due to the same reasons. While the PS3 finished strongly, I'd say that the 360 reigned supreme for most of this generation.

Whereas I look at it from the perspective, the PS3 is HANDS down the better device, if solely because it has an upgradeable Blu-Ray player.

Yeah, that is a pretty big plus, and is why the PS3 is in our main lounge, and the 360 is relegated to the kids one.

I am hoping that Vodafone/TelstraClear/Sky/Freeview will take the opportunity and collaborate with Microsoft in order to ensure that the appropriate TV services are correctly integrated in with the Xbox. Really don't mind using it to watch TV and plugging in the appropriate Set top boxes, but if I am going to do that it needs to work nicely with only one remote.

Hopefully it will also have good DLNA support so other devices can be linked (PC or HD Recorder) or streamed to other DLNA compliant devices.

Also, anyone know if we will still need to put a CD in to play a game, or will it finally be a case of just installing once a.k.a PC experience.

Honestly I don't see ISP's being the roadblock here. MS isn't interested in my opinion, in ISP's and what services they want to provide, it will be soley onto the ISP to provide the functionality. MS will not (Due to the logistics and their size) be interested in worrying about this type of functionality.

You see above I said PS3, NOT the current generation? It's impossible to tell who has the better device now, powerful hardware poorly implemented will be far worse than terrible hardware perfectly executed.

MS could have pretty much put PS3 to the sword if they hadn't of sulked over the HDDVD thing and got on with providing a Blu-Ray Drive for the XBox. Yes I do know that Xbox 360 has outsold PS3 in the USA for the longest time.

Honestly I don't see ISP's being the roadblock here. MS isn't interested in my opinion, in ISP's and what services they want to provide, it will be soley onto the ISP to provide the functionality. MS will not (Due to the logistics and their size) be interested in worrying about this type of functionality.

I don't think it has really anything to do with Internet Service Provision, I was referring to those companies as major content providers and some of them use the same technology in a number of countries.

Without trying to sound like a 'fanboy'

Apple TV has been around for a few years now, I think if it was possible to 'seamlessly' run live TV the way Microsoft presented it then Apple would likely have done it already, which leads me to believe that the experience may not be as seamless as they claim.

Also the 'Kinect' that can't be disconnected with a microphone that's 'always on' is somewhat of a concern. Especially in a locked down device where the code can't be reviewed and you can't see what's being phoned back home.

I'm not a big console gamer. I have an elderly PS2 (used once in the last couple of weeks), as well as an Xbox 360 and a Wii (neither of which have been powered up once since the Christmas period). What little gaming I do tends to be on the PC, and the consoles are more of a social thing. Used for multi-player games and the Buzz quiz etc when friends come round.

I also tend to buy games after they have dropped in price and/or as used titles. I don't queue for the latest premium-priced releases.

Both the Xbox One and the PS4 have plenty-good hardware for good games. Heck, even the current generation is pretty good. At this point any difference between them will be more about design, usability, and the range/quality of software available than simply counting cores and shaders.

Personally, at this point, I'm not very interested in the new Xbox and can't see myself buying one any time soon. What I have works fine. It's not the likely price point that puts me off. It's more:

- the equivocation about whether it needs frequent "pings" to the mothership to keep working, even for single player games;
- apparent moves to shut down the playing of used games;
- the lack of backwards compatibility;
- lack of clarity about how toxic the DRM will be;
- the apparent tight integration of many titles with Microsoft cloud capability and server-side processing, which means that if they turn the DRM/servers off (cough, plays for sure, cough) the titles I will have spend a bit on just stop working; and
- the, as it stands, lack of any clear improvements from moving to the new model.

That put me off. Happy for other people to risk their cash and be the early adopters on this one. I think I'll sit back, wait, and see.

Disappointing.

At least the 8GB RAM (sort of) and mandatory HDD install is a positive.

Hardware-wise (for the bits that really matter), it just seems so-so. Definitely not a 360 specced launch - that box was cutting edge for it's time.

Well as a fanboy I'm quite disappointed in what they showed. It was a lacklustre reveal with not much info on a lot of the things most gamers were keen to hear about.

I'm playing a game and wow a friend annoys me and points out they're watching this movie and push a clip through or something like that although yes I can obviously set (or at least I'd like to think I can) it up to not have those sort of interruptions. Instant switching although looks cool and will save precious seconds but when I game that's what I want to do I won't want interruptions, Skype calls, internet browsing and or a movie all going at the same time and who would....or do they think we're going to switch to 3 - 4 mins of gaming during ad breaks???

Also no backwards compatibility is annoying if not outright tragic now because of this I (may) have to have 2 kinect consoles plugged into my tv at any given time or should I just give my 100+ gaming colletion away now because there's a new toy in town.

Also 2nd hand gaming is not ruled out you can take your game to your friends house and sign in to play it fair enough awesome....but wait if I need to be signed in what if there's two of us from different houses getting together oh wait lets have a lan party and bring each person a copy as that's what will be needed. Player 1 owns Halo, Player 2 lives with player one so does not need their own copy so if player 1 & two want to play Halo with a couple of mates at their place it's a lan party or taking turns. So no they've not ruled out 2nd games they've shafted gaming households. I have 5 kids should we all own a game so that we can play together when we're away from home???

Some go oh look 500 gig storage space. I have over 4TB on my pc and I'm running out of space fast. At upto 80 gig per game what's 500 gig get you 6 or 7 yes I know obviously I am using the extremes but I am a game collector I have a lot of games on this new console you need to be online when you first play your game so it can register to your account you can't fit enough games on 500 gig at those sizes if there's no 2nd hand option even for trading in to get a new game then you'd not want to find too many great games as then you'd have to delete some over the next 5 - 10 years life for the One.

What I want to know is how robust is their legal teams with regards to Games on Demand as these rights to play are based on Xbox Live (i think) so if Xbox live service is still running where's my games I've bought and paid for oh wait I can't use them on the system I bought them for use on or should that be ....rented these games. Not impressed with this lack of thought with me recently getting GoD games over disk versions a lot more so I can get them digitally again if need be.

Thanks MS no rush for me to spend my $$$ on what will be more like a Xbox 360 + bluray when first launched here. Worst part you will still get my money just not in any rush now knowing that my 360 and 100+ games are still going to be able to provide me with a few more years of value.

Last couple of things yes it is about me as these are my opinions and thoughts and your entitled to yours too and secondly rant over thanks MS I have waited a long time for this and a little more of a wait so at E3 you can give us more info on the games...
