I thought the idea from an article I read, was to bring it all together. I assumed all, or a lot of all could be centralised to the Xbox One. Just STB tho, thats ok, good to know. It wont record as a PVR, so whats the benefit in reality?

The benefit I'm assuming is so that you don't have to pick up the remote click 'Input' 2 or 3 times to get to (in our case) sky, pick up another remote to choose a sky channel only to pick up the first remote click 'Input' again to go back to the xbox.

It's supposed to be seemless integration where you can just say 'Xbox, watch tv' followed by 'Xbox, watch Sky Sport 1' followed by 'Xbox, play game' etc etc.

Not that we will be able to do this in NZ (for a while at least).

I think sums t up for a lot of people I know...taken from a blog comment on MS's Major Nelson

My case is we're a gaming family. All I want to know is if having multiple consoles and multiple Live accounts, like we do now, can we share a game between us? I know that we can all play on one console or multiple consoles as long as I'm signed in. But you guys have GOT to figure a way for my kids to be able to walk in the living room, take any NEW game they want off the shelf, and go play in their room, on their own Xbox One, on their own account. Because I'm NOT going to pay for a console, buy a game NEW, pay for a subscription, and not be able to play it wherever I want in my own house.

I agree with this wholeheartedly I am in this situation multiple consoles in one house, multiple live accounts (linked via the family pack) but it's looking like my kids won't be able to take our games to their bedroom / play room to play.

I know more info is to be revealed on both consoles yet but there's been some major let downs with lack of info and the info they've given to date. Real world is nothing like what we saw at the launch we'll get some stunted box that underperforms due to the restrictions of our internet connections and the manufacturers actually realsing the needs of their customers over the wants of their pockets.

Backwards compatibility is not a must for physical disk but Games on Demand content should transfer to the new service. A non removable hard drive combined with Bluray disk and a forced install makes for a short term life of any game you might own. Gaming is supposed to be a social thing like this console but it looks likely that you may struggle to play your games at a friends house without them owning the same game or buying a license. No more hey can I borrow blah blah game see if I like it before buying...(of course theres always a demo to download lol oh wait that's right not all games have demos and we're llimited with storage space.

It'll be interesting to see just how well the One will work with the cloud here in NZ and how big of a effect that will have on data caps for the hard core gamers.

Off topic I think (because I haven't had time to read through the whole thread yet - but will this afternoon)....

I'm looking forward to this. It won't replace my 360 in my entertainment unit, but it will replace my Blu-ray player. I reckon I'll hold on to the 360 for at least a year or two for a couple of reasons - devs will still release for 360 while the One title list grows, and I do like to re-play some of my favourite older games from time to time.

I'm really looking forward to this next generation of gaming though. So many times over the last few years when playing some AAA titles I've just thought to myself over and over again that we're in the golden age of gaming. It looks like the One will bring us into the latinum age of gaming :)

I'll keep buying Xboxes while they keep having the better controller (IMO) - I just can't stand the PS controller, never have liked it, never will. The Xbox controller is the one for me. It's a small thing, but makes a massive difference to the game experience and really is the difference between going MS or Sony for me.

The retailers are literally guessing at pricing at this point :)

Someone else mentioned previously on this thread some NZ retailers are taking preorders at 999 and 1 at 1199

GST is now up to 15% so based on current FX rate it would be more than this
