stevenz: Fair enough. The issue I had was that you're still torturing a dude. I'm not convinced that it being portrayed as satire makes it any the less unpleasant.

what I find weird is the people who find a torture scene unpleasant,  yet are quite happy to play the rest of the game where you murder hundreds, if not thousands of innocent people, deal drugs, and rob banks.

(not that I find any of those things unpleasant, but I wonder why people who dislike torture seem to be 'ok' with them)

I don't intentionally kill "innocents" in the game. I have no problem with drug dealing, just the people that tend to be involved in it. Banks are insured faceless corporations. I play it for the story and to do dumb stuff in vehicles. There's a line between killing someone outright and prolonged infliction of physical & mental pain.

I should stop here, I'm starting to sound like a hippy...

I think you'd struggle to complete any missions if you didn't kill innocents.  All those cops in the very first mission probably had fake families to go home to .

"Innocent" is someone not firing a gun at me.

I don't know what game your playing, but if someone gets aggro at me for bumping their car, I get out and open fire on them.
Muahahaha, ROAD RAGE!!!
Although constantly trying to hide from the Police does become a bit cumbersome.

This is all make believe right?

I think I'm going to stop the game I'm playing and start a new one. I really messed up the investment opportunities and now I'm running on empty with money. I also bought up some property thinking "more money must come out of the heists" but for a while after the first heist you really earn no money doing the other missions.

So I think before I go much further I'm going to restart - in saying that I'm already 20 hours in LOL

It takes several months (years?) of in-game time for properties to pay for themselves. More of a novelty to add more mini-quests than as a useful income source. Some of the properties provide useful bonuses, but nothing all that substantial.

Other than income from heists and stock investments after assassinations, there's only small trickles of income to be had unless you want to spend a lot of time doing things specifically to effect the stockmarket, or lots of fetch-quests. Basically, like the real world, if you want money, you have to work for it, and that's just not fun :)

Their servers couldn't even cope with the mobile app or SocialClub site reliably, switching on GTA-5-Online has caused them to almost totally collapse under the weight. I'd expect it to be a couple of days before it's actually usable. The fact that they don't seem to have an Australasian site doesn't help.

It is very difficult to accomplish.  If it was easy, then all online games (like Borderlands 2 for example) would have done it.

But in saying that, its not impossible.  Just very costly and difficult.

Actually I've heard game devs say that it's quite possible, but console manufacturers won't let them do it.. I think this was Criterion talking about Burnout Paradise.   There was at least one cross platform multiplayer game (PC +  xbox360) in the form of shadowrun.   I quite liked that game, but I don't think it was ever popular on the PC side.

Got online in GTA last night, I really like the co-op element when you get some people you know together doing dumbass stuff like sticking up a 7-11.   It as a lot of trust involved, in that the stickup guy gets the money.. and the driver has to hope that once they get away that they will get their cut.

Warning: reality may differ from above post
