lxsw20:What is PS5 availability/pricing like at the moment? I've just won a PS5 disk edition with God of War at work, but I've already got one.
Who was that offensive to?

Well, I purchased a PS5 digital edition by walking into an EB Games. Stores must be finally keeping up with demand.
I also got 1 year of PS+ Extra when it was 40% off a couple of weeks ago. Played through both God of War games (amazing) and now I'm giving Spider-man a crack. The PS exclusives really are amazing single player experiences.
Looking to get a PS5. Is it better to get one with a disk drive or just a digital version?

Disc version would be better IMHO. Since you can get games on disc cheaper than online store, eg buying off Amazon AU
Disc version costs more than digital one though.
So you can buy digital games online on the disk one? (Not had one since PS2).

I'm assuming you have to have the actual disc in the machine for the game to boot, even though it just installs to the internal drive and then discards a good chunk of that with multi-gig patches?
I'm currently on Xbox and that requirement put me right off buying physical discs.
My proper hardcore gamer days are behind me, to be honest. So I can normally stand to wait a while for the price to drop in an online sale before buying.
If it's a game you've originally installed from disc, the disc must be in the drive to play, even if it's the Ship of Theseus having been updated multiple times. If it's a game purchased online, no disc is required to play it.
FWIW I see global sales of PS5 have just ticked over 32 million, with a massive 7.91 million units sold in the last 3 months.
Seems Sony have finally gotten on top of supply issues, all bar one of my PS gaming friends have PS5's now

I'm a gamer from way back in the Atari and Commodore 64 days and the last console that I owned was the PS3. I haven't played any games for years, but now that I'm retired, and have more spare time, I decided to get a PS5 disc edition. I subscribed to Playstation Plus Essential for 12 months. With the free games available on PS Plus and the sale in Playstation Store, I have enough games to keep me going for some time. The fact that PS Plus Essential has two or three games each month for free (more if you subscribe to the more expensive options) I can't see me buying any discs ever again. So, I should have bought the Digital Version, but I wasn't aware of the online options at the time.
I like platform games, and I was going to buy Sackboy: A Big Adventure which is around $100, a bit more or a bit less if you shop around. I paid $89.99 for a PS Plus subscription, and I got Sackboy for free as its one of the free games available for April, plus several other free games. I do have to keep my subscription live to keep playing them, but still, a great deal IMHO.

The other thing to keep in mind is that if you have a library of PS4 discs then you'll want a PS5 with a drive, otherwise you'll have to hang onto the PS4 as well.
