The good thing is there are choices. I personally haven't bought physical media since 2014 when the PS4 was released. I know I pay more for my games but I'm a casual gamer that only buys 2-3 AAA games per year and is mostly happy with what's on offer with PS Plus game catalogue.
For me the convenience of digital outweighs the extra price but if I was a heavy gamer I'm sure that would be different.
I'm also fully digital, for all media, but I'm starting to think I should buy the stuff I like on physical media again just to have it in case licensing deals fall through with digital platforms and titles get removed, as is happening a lot with streaming services.
I don't deny a Pro was predictable, and it's longer between iterations than the PS4 - PS4 Pro was. My point is for a console that was hard to buy for 2.5 years, bringing out a Pro now is a real slap for the people that weren't able to source until over the last year.
So far it's just adding height channels but not separating actual height data. New games will be able to develop it into their games, but for now it's the equivalent of spreading stereo across 5.1
EviLClouD: I see the PS5 is on sale for $718 at the moment. Is it worth holding out for the Slim or Pro versions?
@EvilClouD Just saw this re new slim version of PS5 being released in the US sometime next month. Less bulky (30% lower volume and 24% lighter) - no change in performance specs but slightly larger 1TB internal storage.
"This new PS5 has an optional snap-on Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, meaning you could choose to upgrade a new digital model with disc function later on."
Old model will disappear once stock is sold - maybe a chance to get an old model cheap on run-out?
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
usual sku at this point of the cycle.
At the bottom of the Article
"In exchange for the flexibility of “buy now, add a drive later,” the new PS5 model has a higher entry point with the Digital Edition costing $450. Meanwhile, you’ll pay $500 for the model with the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc drive."
So, its gonna be a slim digital version that they charge you more for (but you can add a UHD drive to later)-
But it looks like the full size will remain at the current price point...
I've never used the optical drive in my PS5 since I got it. Not even for a movie. That's just me but I can't be unusual about this.

Yep I know many folks still have physical collections, or shop the 2nd hand sections for games, and I don't begrudge anyone doing that, I used to myself before I decided digital was more convenient for me, and had the added bonus of me not having to deal with the muppets behind the counter at PB Tech trying to upsell me on crap I don't need. I ditched my DVD catalogue years ago other than some rare TV shows and the like. Then I ditched my Blu-rays some years after, with the same approach to keep rarer things. Following the physical/digital debate online in recent years has been interesting - e.g. seeing studios and streaming platforms basically erase some content from existence so you can't get it anywhere anymore....that's sad and I agree it's an argument for physical media. But it's also why I have Plex... But yep this is off topic, might set up a separate chat about the topic as it's particularly relevant now.
