I've been playing for the last few days and I'm so impressed.  It's a huge, deep, visually stunning game.  I reckon the reviews have been way too critical!  Sure some of the people look a bit worse than some other games like Uncharted, but it's a huge RPG and I feel like the devs definitely put the effort in where it matters the most!

Yup i'm playing, like the open world aspect of the maps. Really impressed with the Profiles letting you switch up the combat bonus when you want

Good game imo

I haven't finished ME 2 ME 3 or in fact witcher 2 and witcher 3 despite owning them all. Playing Zero Dawn Horizon, when I finish that I intend to go back to Witcher 3

I'm very tempted... but also finding I don't have much time for gaming lately and the few reviews I've come across seem quite mixed.

Story is good, but I really hope they update graphics next time around, faces etc look a little dated.

^Yeah but only on the humans right?  And I don't find myself talking to humans much.  The aliens look awesome, and the extra effort that went into the planet and station environments is super impressive!  Especially in 4K HDR!

I'm another that's super impressed thus far. Some facial expressions are a little flat, I just assume they were going for the botox look. The graphics are gorgeous @ 1440p.

Thought about it when the launch offers were around.

Just have so many things still to play and a limited capacity to recall control mapping!

Also not that good. Even on the easiest setting in things like Ghost Recon Wildlands I spend far more time failing and /or dying than succeeding!

Unfortunately I don't have a device capable of running it. Gutted.

Having played for a few weeks I have some definitive opinions now.  Screw the reviews, it's a great game overall.  However...

I've played it on a 55" Samsung 1080p TV from about 5 years ago and it looks TERRIBLE.  I've played it (mostly) on a 4K HDR tv and it looks GORGEOUS!  So YMMV and this game definitely benefits from a newer TV, especially with HDR.  If you've got that covered you're going to have a very, very good time!

There's a patch coming out next week to address some bugs - eye animation, skippable animations when travelling between planets/systems, smoother graphics in some places.  But seriously I have found the game to be excellent even without a patch, and I think reviewers have been overly critical.  Humans don't look as good as Uncharted per se, but that's a different game, fully choreographed.  There are thousands of interaction options in MEA and it's unreasonable to think they could animate them all.  Besides which you're mostly talking to aliens and they look superb!

The main story campaign is very short.  If you focus on that you'll be done with the game in 8-12 hours.  I recommend doing a bunch of side missions/loyalty missions in-between main story missions as this will help increase your skill level and upgrades faster.

I do find the research/upgrade system convoluted.  With so many great RPG's in the last few years I don't know why they'd bother changing a mechanic that works so well in other games.  I also find the mission select screen really hard to locate new missions and quests, but the tracking system for active missions is great.

Overall everyone needs to play this game.  If nothing else it's visually stunning - but if you're not on a very new TV with HDR (or a PC) your opinion will be skewed.

Does the game benefit from the modern TV even using a standard PS4 rather than the Pro?
I have a 4K hdr Sony TV but not the pro version of the PS.

I'm playing on an Xbox One S.  Granted the 1080p TV I played on was an original Xbox One - so that may have compounded the issue.  Certainly the Xbox One S combined with HDR is stunning.

I so know that feeling. I don't think I have been to bed earlier than 0100 since I got my PS4...!
